This board is great! I did buy the felt stickers for the bottom so the board doesn’t scratch with use. Several other reviews recommended this. The magnetic strength is still solid even with the felt stickers on the bottom of the chess pieces.I really like the size of this larger version, as I think the smaller one would have been too small. I also like that the pieces actually look like chess pieces.I have a bunch of littles running around our house, bumping into tables and such, so it’s really useful to have chess pieces that stay where they are put even when bumped, and can even be rolled up and put away for later if needed! The board is very foundational, and worth the money if you enjoy chess in more mobile and/or chaotic situations.

Absolutely love the VentureBoard — it's become my go-to travel companion! The build quality is outstanding: solid, durable, and clearly made to last through all kinds of adventures. Whether I’m tossing it in a backpack or pulling it out for a quick game at a campsite or airport, it holds up beautifully. Everything from the pieces to the board itself feels thoughtfully designed and high-end, which is honestly surprising at this price point. Had a blast taking it with to music festival and just cracking it open on while dancing and people playing a game with me in all the chaos and the pieces not moving. I randomly came across the Ventureboard portable chess set while scrolling through various social media sites. As I have always been a fan of chess and love to play it, finding a portable chess board has always been on my list as most "portable" ones tend to be stiff rigid boards that are hard to pack with loose pieces. So I figured I would take a gamble on this set as you never know with what you see and find on the internet and I am glad that I did! This set is really amazing and lives up to my expectations and needs! It is easy to just roll the entire board up, even mid game, and not have a piece fall off or move once packed up. It literally takes seconds to just wrap the board up onto itself and you are set to go. I am also glad I went with the XL version, as I have big hands and moving these larger pieces is a lot easier to do then the smaller board. Plus the XL version pieces actually look like chess pieces and not general little pieces with a logo on them. Once rolled up, the XL board is about the size of a Yeti water bottle, so about 11 inches tall and 4 inches wide which means it is easy to throw into a backpack or piece of luggage. Overall, I would say this is a must buy for anyone who is a chess fan and needs a quick and easy board to take with them on the go. I showed the XL board off at my job and already have a few people wanting to pick up one for themselves.

I own two smaller boards and the XL.The smaller boards come with a nice travel bag. Would be nice if the XL came with or had an option to order a travel bag for it. I keep it in the cardboard box it came in. Other than that the boards are great.

This this is perfect set to take when getting some beers and food. You don’t have to worry about it getting wet and it’s easy to roll up and save your game. The XL is the right size for me, I think the smaller one would be too small and I like the way these pieces are shaped. Magnets are strong but not too strong to where it’s tough to pick up and move, but hold everything in place when rolled up. It fits in the cup holders in my truck so I pretty much take this everywhere now.

Love the board! Its super nice and unique. My only complaint is that after 1 game with my son the board was covered in scratches.......i collect chess boards and between you and me scratchs are horrible and distracting. I ordered 1/2 felt stickers for the bottoms of the pieces, but it was to late the damage was done.This issue needs to be adress by the product makers. It is a super awsome board and i get compliments about it, but is ruined by scratches..........each board should come with felts to put on pieces if the buyer wants to protect the board. Awsome product, with 1 major flaw...would have 5 star if not for scratchs.

Nice travel chessboard. Well constructed. The pieces stay in position very well when rolled up, and can handle some jostling without moving around the board. A hard drop will of course dislodge pieces, but that's to be expected. It does come in a nice cardboard tube that acts to help protect it. I like that the pieces have cutouts vs the smaller version of this board where the pieces are all the same and just have identifying pics on top. Although the small version is much more compact and still great if you're traveling and space is an issue. I own multiple boards in both the small and this larger version. I use them often to study games. Its very convenient to roll up and throw back in my bag and get out later to finish. I've also given a couple as gifts.

Lovely solid design, excellent quality, with reliable retention of the game status. Easily transported and fun to use. Definitely eye catching and a conversation starter.
