learned so much
As a writer, I will use this as a resource frequently in the future. There’s so much information that it’s not a one and done kind of book. It’s more like a resource that mystery writers can go back to time and time again.

Well researched, informative, and easy read.
If you’re writing mystery, thriller, or suspense, like I am, this is a great go to guide. I would highly recommend it.

Too general to be of much use.
As a published author, I picked up this book to broaden my understanding of tropes, genre conventions, and the mystery writing process. After a few pages, I felt I was wading through overgeneralized prose generated by AI. I can't be certain, of course, but the "feel" of the book reminded me of what ChatGPT would turn out if you asked it to "summarize the different genres of mystery and the elements they contain." For a total newbie, there may be some helpful material here. I found little in this book to inform an experienced writer.

Great Insight Into Mystery Tropes
Great book that I know is going to be an invaluable resource as I work on my next book. I really enjoyed the tone the author took with what could be a drier subject. Highly recommended for writers looking to master the art of mystery storytelling!

AI generated?
Ok wikipedia collected stuff. Not a trace of an actual author anywhere. And MUCH more genre definition than tropes

Good explanations of the various tropes in the mystery and thriller genre. I read this through KU and may consider buying it in the future for reference.
