Mopar 82215356AB Jeep Wrangler Oversized Spare Tire Carrier Tailgate Reinforcement

I installed an oversized wheel and tire on my tailgate and had a lot of rattling issues. This bracket solved all my problems and took probably a half hour to install. I highly recommend this product!

Fit our LJ perfect. Love the look and was extremely easy to install it you have help to remove and mount the spare. We have a 35x14.50x20 hanging on it now.

Just as intended, easy to install.

Although expensive the other option was a new rear bumper with a tire carrier mount on the bumper. The guys that did our mods (including a 2” Mopar lift, retractable boards, bumpers, winch, LEDs, etc, & 35s) did not reinforce the tailgate. Jeep says max weight w/o kit is 85 lbs. The 35s weigh 120 lbs. Before installing we had a lot of tailgate twist and noise. Afterward, silence. I also installed the oversized tire carrier, didn’t modify the break light, used supplied tire bumpers.

We have a 2018 JL Rubicon 2.5” lift and 37” tires . We purchased the reinforcement brace due to the weight of the spare tire. The tire was making noise and twisting the tailgate.As far as the design of the bracket is great and looks awesome..... unfortunately it did not function the way it was supposed.We installed the reinforcement as per directions and torque requirements.The reinforcement does not really help at all with the movement of the door or the twist.This moose brace and larger tire relocation bracket( not this item) tour that it can handle 37” tires.As I said befor nice design but very expensive for not helping the issues . I will be returning the item and removing my spare until I can find a better solution.Gave it two stars for quick delivery, easy installation, and good looking design.

I know Mopar accessories are always very expensive but I will say, the fit and finish is phenomenal. Easy to install and strong but lightweight.

This is based on my experience only. The install was super easy. Mopar’ s instructions were simple and came with pictures. Very nice! It does appear to add support to already hinges that remain in place.Pros: It’s OEM and Mopar made it simple to install (I installed it with the Mopar tire mount for larger wheels & tires)Cons: The torque settings seem a bit over the top for the Allen Hex Head Bolts.The cardboards shims are too weak. (Recommend using paint stirring sticks see below)After I installed it, I had to go back and raise it with paint stirrer sticks under the gate to accommodate my 110-lb spare. (I’m running 18X10 Fuel Trophy wheels and Geolander 35s AT with a combined weight of 110-115)The write up and the descriptions indicate this will support such tire weight. In my case, I had it readjust the bracket afterwards. Not a big deal. Mopar includes cardboard shims.All in all, It works for now. Time will tell if it will stand up. The only other option is go with a hinge replacement setup like EVO has or, go with a bumper mount spare tire mount.
