For children, this is well written and an interesting introduction - and made me want to know more about him. Not all the books in this series as so well written, this one gets it right.

We now have a couple of books in this series. The choice of topics, though US-centric is quite interesting. I don’t mind my history-obsessed daughter to learn some more about US history, the US civil war and more inspirational US presidents than some modern ones. And she has recently soaked up a lot of facts about Abraham from a more succinct comic book biography. This book should give her a bit more background and colour.I use these books for guided reading, which in a sense is great as for both the young reader and me as a parent they provide a concise overview of the characters life, Lincoln in this case. A good overview of some of the societal issues of the age.However, the book reads well, and the storyline makes sense. The thing I continue to struggle with in this series is the presentation.The book has a colourful soft cover however the illustrations inside the book are plain black and white drawings, that I could have made myself and simply not too inspiring.If I compare this price-wise to for example with the super well-presented Usborne famous lives books for young readers, then it is clear that you can get better value elsewhere. However the topics in this series remain quite interesting.The lettering was a little large as well, so it is probably for readers in the 7- to 8 -year age range.

Great overview of Abraham Lincoln's life, really enjoyable and I will look forward . To reading the rest of the series.
