Easy to use and accurate results
An easy to use device that allowed me to easily locate the uprights behind my drywall , mark them accurately the drill straight into them. Would definitely recommend!

Excellent product but supplied with poor instruction leaflet.
Initially I was put off buying this product due to all the poor reviews, but since it was a Stanley product I thought it must be OK. It arrived with a set of Mickey Mouse pictorial instructions that did not make any sense let alone tell you how to use the product properly. I went on the Stanley web site and was able to download a set of comprehensive instructions that described how to use the product properly. I found that if I followed these instructions the performance was excellent. Why can't Stanley supply the product with a proper instruction leaflet?

This is not an X-ray, don't expect to see through the wall!
Not easy to understand, but it is workable. I started to understand why other users give negative feedback to this product. This product was designed in the US, they don't have a switch to every AC socket like we have in the UK. The AC detecting is likely by sensing the magnetic field from the AC wire, when there is AC current going through the wire. When there is nothing plugged in or nothing is consuming the AC power through that wire, there is no current, and the magnetic field will be very weak, to weak to be detected. Same does the wire that goes to the light switch, if the light switch is off, there is no AC current, no magnetic field to be detected. Once I switch on the light, it gives the correct sensing. When switching on every time, it is a must to hold it for about 3 seconds, to wait for "READY" to appear - the so called calibration process. Try a few known places, if it doesn't give any signal, try to do that calibration process again with a different spot. For the AC, I find it can be sensitive, pick up the AC wire some distance away. I suspect when they design this in the US, was based on the AC 110V, which the current will be a higher (if the appliance uses the same Watts of power). In the UK, as we are AC 230V here, the current is lower, the magnetic field is weaker too, so the AC detection is less precise. I suspect they didn't tune it for the European AC voltage/current - come on Stanley Black & decker, you can do better than that! If it can bundle a small pouch for keeping, that will be better. Buying from Amazon saves me £10, comparing to the price in B&Q. It's not perfect, I think I can use it (before it grinds my gears!)

Handy bit of kit
Am enjoying running this over all my walls prior to starting any renovations we are planning. Seems to work, not been electrocuted or flooded yet

By far the worst tool I've ever owned
After many hours of frustration I have come to the inevitable conclusion that this is simply a terrible product that isn't fit for purpose and doesn't do the job it's designed for. I'm an experienced DIYer, I've built my own music studio (framing, plasterboard, painting, doors and windows) and I've also built furniture and bicycles over the years—I'm not new to this sort of thing. I wanted to mount some heavy shelves and thought I'd use the studs for security, so I bought this stud finder after some research. In hindsight, I can't understand why anyone recommends it! I followed the instructions carefully, making sure to calibrate the device before use in an area without a stud. But it just wouldn't produce the same result twice. I used painter's tape to make pencil marks on, so I'm 100% sure I was measuring in the same place each time. My flat is a new build, and as far as I know completely standard materials. I also tried using two different brand-new 9V batteries, in case it was a power issue. Long story short, my first three screws did not hit any wood at all, even after repeated "positives" by the unit. I'm just going to buy some toggle bolts, like I should have done in the first place. It's absolutely terrible. If you're going to buy a stud finder, don't be like me—spend the extra and get a genuinely useful device, not this steaming pile of frustration.

Good value and works exactly as expected
Good value and works exactly as expected. Also it Arrived quickly. Have used on many occasions and it works perfectly on plasterboard stud walls, as the advert says it should. It does not seem to work on brick walls.

A bannir, a proscrire, a eviter..... C est tout ma vision de la marque qui en est remise en cause!!!!!! trop dansgeureux de vendre un tel materiel qui fonctionne si mal !!!!!!!!!!!

I love it, and its very quickly become an extremely important and reliable go-to tool anytime I even think about touching my walls. However this was not until I really put some time into learning how to use it properly. The instructions that come with it are superbly lacking. There aren't any actual words on them, just pictures. If you're a first time user of these kinds of stud sensors (where you want to start making sure no pipes/wires are behind the wall) then you're going to struggle at first like I did. However, like all good DIY projects (and DIY types of people) its always worth putting time into learning to do something new... properly. There are youtube videos put on by the manufacturer that do a really great job of teaching you how to use it, I highly recommend watching those and putting some time into practicing to use this properly. Test what you've learned by looking at where your wall outlets are and "finding" wires that you already know are there and do the same with studs. Get comfortable with it before you plan to rely on it to venture into territory you aren't familiar with. Its a safety device and the research/practice time is totally worth it. Now that I'm familiar with it, I spend just a few seconds using it anytime I need to, so I didn't dock any stars for the learning curve because I probably would have had to learn this stuff with any electrical stud sensor I bought. Also really great tip I learned that is vital to anyone using these types of stud sensors... firmly place your open hand on the wall right next to the stud sensor to see if wires are really there or not! this thing is really super sensitive to electrical signals, and the walls are full of static electricity. This thing will go off warning you of electrical wires all over the place and I've found that most of times, its just static electricity (think about it, your rubbing this thing and its furry little wall pads across the room and making even more static as you use it.) So if you want to clear the false positives from the real signals, put your hand literally right next to this thing firmly on the wall and your hand will absorb the static and you'll notice the electrical warning beeps immediately stop. If its still alerting you to electrical wires with your hand on the wall then you've got the real wires right there and you better not make any holes there! Also keep in mind how it beeps when you're near a wire, vs when you're on top of a wire. I've used this to help me hang things very close to where I knew wires were because I could tell if I was a few inches away vs right on top of them. You better practice and really know what you're doing before you do that! but this thing does actually have what it takes to do it. Also, another reviewer posted the strong earth magnet wall stud finder and I bought that thing too. He's absolutely right, that thing works fast, great and 100% of the time and I really love that one too. I routinely use BOTH of these stud finders for all projects and together they make a very fast, safe accurate system. The magnet one finds me a stud really fast and alot of times even allows me to hang stuff without even making a pencil mark on the wall but its the stanley unit that I always also use as a safety measure. The magnet one doesn't tell you anything about pipes or wires in the wall so it really cant be used safely alone.

Esegue il suo dovere. Riesce a segnalare tubi e cavi sottotraccia non troppo internati ma comunque sufficiente x non incappare in rotture indesiderate. Funzionale e pratico.
