The bi-directional scan tool you need, you just don't know it UNTIL NOW! Affordable and GOOD!
I asked a family member to get this for me for Christmas 2024 to replace an older, slower and less capable scan tool. I have used this product exclusively as my scanner of choice every since. We are a Honda family with 4 vehicles. 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan, 2009 Honda Civic Coupe LX, 2014 Honda CR-V EX 2WD, 2022 Honda Civic Si Sedan. The year of the vehicle and the functions that the car supports can vary. For instance the 2022 Civic Si has a multitude of functions that the older vehicles do not support. Regardless this tool is invaluable to check: Mass Air Flow sensor, Coolant Temperature, this comes extremely handy when changing engine coolant to know when the vehicle is at operating temperature. Engine RPM, Fuel Trims to monitor the amount of fuel an engine receives. The Onboard Board Monitors help to see where you are at with Smog related monitors. Especially if you are car enthusiast and like to work on your own cars this can be critical to making sure these are ALL running prior making your smog check. This is reset if you have to unhook the battery. Also handy to use to see if someone has recently reset the battery or cleared any codes recently if you are looking for a used car. The special functions menu is nice as the software controls Honda specific controls for the vehicle(s) I can run a Health Scan to see if there is any DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) stored in the system but maybe not visible YET as a CEL (Check Engine Light) One function that I see with the 2022 Honda Civic Si is the ability to put the rear electric brakes in maintenance mode so l can change the pads and or rotors as needed. One function that will work ACROSS the board with all our Honda vehicles is the Throttle Body Relearn. This is needed after you clean the throttle body so that it knows the correct position to avoid a high engine idle after a cleaning. I will be using this function quite a bit with 4 Honda vehicles in the household. I also like that not only is the OBDC generic software continually updated so is the Honda specific software to fix issues and support newer model vehicles the current version I received is Honda V49.60, the updates are free and never a charge for it. It seems that every time I check there is new versions to download and install. There is also a special function to program new immobilizer (keys) I am in the process to find out if it will work with any of our Honda vehicles. I am a DIY home mechanic and love this tool and find it as valuable as any wrench, socket or screwdriver in my tool set. If you need a GOOD scanner on a budget this is definitely it!

Launch Creader Scanner: great tool for DIY with 2-year warranty and lifetime software updates
The Launch Creader scanner V2.0 is a great tool for DIY and comes with 2-year warranty and lifetime software updates. It is very portable - not too big or too small, seems to be very solid, and does not require a phone or tablet to use it. I bought the one for Honda/Acura; it is working great and is decently fast. It is important to read the portion of the manual about initial use and updating the scanner before hooking it to your car. Once you do that, you should be good to go. The scanner includes tons of options and reset services; some I may never use. However, it reveals issues with my car that have not yet triggered a check engine light. I was able to confirm that my window motor works using special functions, gathered more info about an ABS light, and finally figured out the reason behind the TPMS light. In today’s world, having an idea about your car issues can save you a lot in diagnostic fees. For this price tag, I think that this is definitely a good investment since performance does not appear to be an issue with this device. Although this scanner is vehicle brand based, you have the option to purchase other vehicle softwares if you own other vehicle brands. Nonetheless, I feel like the scanner screen could have been bigger (no reason why it is not as wide as the entire front). Also, exporting reports/documents could have been made easier (they come as a link in an email). It is worth noting that a carrying case for the scanner would have been very helpful. In any event, this scanner can be rated 4.5 out of 5.

Time saver! Worth the buy
Bought this to help diagnose trouble with a sliding door on a 2009 Toyota sienna. Got it fixed before the scanner got delivered. This is like having techstream it has helped me diagnose air bag issues and shows resistance valves that show which one is causing the light to come on shows tire pressure and temperature in your tires. I haven’t gotten into all the scanner can do but it’s a perfect girt for a diy er. Easy to use auto detect works good. Can buy more vehicle selection in the mall and lifetime updates. For free. It you buy more vehicles in the mall, you have to renew yearly and update are free within that year. Compact. Can keep in your toolbox or glovebox and can email diagnostic reports and activate different components for diagnostics. Overall worth the money

Overly complicated and expensive, uses a lot of data. Outdated software.
Very complicated to use. Expensive to maintain. Dont let the low price trick you. It's very deceiving. You will need to spend money for every brand of care. Needs constant updating, so it's always connected to wifi. TBH, it feels like a data harvesting scam. I can't pick it up, turn it on and just use it without updating it, and the updates are slow to download. ****UPDATE**** I gave this scanner another chance, hoping that I could get the hang of it. After several hours, and using it on 2 different types of Mercedes-benz from 2010 and 2017 I realized that it's not me. The software is subpar and doesn't do what it's advertised to do. It's basically a glorified OBD2 scanner. I decided to return the item.

Great techstream replacement
Used this obd device to program a key fob for my 2004 tundra. Worked great. The menus are a bit troublesome to get to. Not all options are available, like controlling seat belt warning light. Neither was is on a tech stream program running off a windows 10 laptop running virtual won xp and tech stream. Worth the money and EASY to use with comprehensive info for Toyota and lexus

Amazing capabilities for the money
This device did something that I was told only a dealer, or a $1000+ dealer level product would do. I replaced the factory navigation / audio unit in our 2005 CLK500. All went well, with one exception...in the navigation equipped cars, there is no manual way to set the clock in the instrument cluster, as it gets a signal from the GPS, which is no longer there. Searching the net, I found 2 'solutions'...the first was to pull and replace the clock fuse at noon, which is the default time. This works, but it's not entirely convenient, and has to be done at least twice a year, just to keep up with daylight vs. standard time. The other solution was to have the navigation option 'coded out' of the cluster using the Mercedes SDS diagnostic system. This means a trip to the dealership, and whatever they charge (if the would even do it), finding an independent shop with SDS (same issues of cost or willingness), or buy an SDS system...which really means piece together a bunch of bits and pieces to build an SDS clone, as MB doesn't just sell it to anyone. Well, I now know of a 3rd solution, and that's this device. In less than 5 minutes, I was able to tell my car that it no longer had a navigation system, which brings up a 'set time and date' function in the normal vehicle settings menu. It will also allow you to properly code and initialize SAM's...another thing normally reserved for SDS shops or investment. And all this is on top of its very solid ability as a high end diagnostic tool, capable not only of reading and resetting codes, but also the ability to read datastreams, actuate individual components, and so much more. And at this price...wow! I paid almost this much for an Icarsoft unit that only does a fraction of what this unit does. And as if that wasn't enough, this unit is for Mercedes, but via the Launch online mall, you can purchase the ability to work on other manufacturers vehicles.

Mostly works - but not smoothly or all features. Very poor documentation and screen interface.
I have a few other higher-end readers - with Manufacturer specific access. I use an iCarSoft for Volvo, have an Innova for BMW, etc. I tried this one for Lexus/Toyota and have to say it does not measure up to other offerings. It does not come ready-to-use, and does not prompt you to update it. Even afterwards, further updates may be required to access all features - but you are on your own to figure that out. I had particularly purchased this to do some personalization/customization settings on two Lexus cars. I was able to do SOME of them eventually after hours of getting the machine set-up, but it would not access all of the available settings. I also found the screen difficult to use; it is overly-sensitive and with tiny on-screen icons and buttons. You will end up repeating many tedious functions unless you use a screen pen to operate it or have the delicate hands of a 13 year old waif. Bottom line is that this device is not ready for Prime-Time. I returned it and will find a better one from iCarSoft, Innova, or Autel for use with my Toyota/Lexus vehicles.

Meh, not bad if you ONLY have Toyota's - probably going to send it back
Works on ONLY Toyota's, I thought it would do basic scanning on other cars but it would not connect to my Honda. I think I am going to get the Think car 689 as it's about double the price (on sale now), has lifetime updates, and does most cars with full bidirectional and even ECU and module coding. This scanner I guess would be al right if you only work on Toyota's. I would look at the Launch x431 series but the updates run out after 2 years and they are REALLY expensive to renew (might as well just buy a new scanner)
