For their seventh studio album, Lift a Sail, Yellowcard had a simple but ambitious goal: to outdo everything they'd ever done before. The guitars and drums had to hit harder; the songwriting had to cut deeper; the choruses had to reach heights only hinted at on their previous outings. Frontman Ryan Key believes he and his bandmates guitarist Ryan Mendez, violinist Sean Mackin, bassist Josh Portman and guest drummer Nate Young (Anberlin) succeeded on all those fronts. "We really feel like we got where we wanted to be, and made a proper rock 'n' roll record," Key says proudly. Recorded with longtime producer Neal Avron at The Casita, his studio in Los Angeles, Lift a Sail is by far their most dynamic, full of massive rock anthems and haunting ballads shot through with Mackin's evocative violin and string arrangements. Young, who recorded his drum tracks at East West Studios, gives songs like "Transmission Home" an extra hard rock kick, over which Ryan Mendez' guitars have never churned with more intensity.

One of those recent discoveries that you wish you had found before now. The guys have produced a pretty 'big' sound on this album, and I know the hard core 'metal' fans out there probably cannot relate to Yellowcard so the news that Yellocard are to be no more probably means nothing; I think they'll be missed - but each to their own. Songs are well presented, full of harmonics and not too folk rock infused, and well suited to a big Hollywood sound track. As the Yanks say "Awesome".

Probably the best band out there on planet earth, real musicians writing great music. Starting at ocean avenue till lift a sail you wont waste your time with these guys or your money.

Love this album, in particular the instrumental song, they are very talented and this doesn't disappoint from any of their other albums.

It's not the yellowcard were used to but it has a place in the catalog.
