It Works
I installed a Yale Keyless Lock and although the ability to unlock the door with code and tags is quite good it isn't really any faster than using a key. The only advantages are being able to give codes to family and others and not getting locked out when the key is forgotten. Adding this little device lifts the usefulness of the lock to a new level.Installation is very easy, just take the lid off the lock battery case, plug in the module and put the lid back. Adding it to Smartthings is almost as easy. It is suggested that this is done with the lock close to the router and then install the whole assembly to the door. That's what I did the first time around and it took about a second to pair. Unfortunately the lock itself developed a mechanical fault so was replaced a month later and in removing it from the door I misplaced the module so after a fruitless search ordered a new one. This was paired to the new lock while fitted to the door which is on a lower floor of the house and some way from the router. Still took about 0.5 seconds for Smartthings to find it and pair.In use it's great. My wife and I can unlock the door with our phones before we get to it and we no longer need to go down three flights of stairs to let guests in. We have also added a Smartthings button which discreetly sits on the corner of the coffee table and a press on the button opens the door without having to open a phone app.Unexpected Benefit. Within the Smartthnings Classic iPhone app there a Notification Screen that records all the actions from plugs, light, etc. This includes the lock. It shows when the lock has been opened and also if it has been done with a code it shows which code. I.e. every code is stored on the lock in a numbered location so when code number 3 is used that is recorded on the app together with the time. Note it is the code LOCATION number. For security it does not show the actual code so does not help potential thieves. The advertising for the module also gives the impression that it works with Amazon Echo. This is partly correct. It is possible to give a LOCK command to Alexa but an UNLOCK command is blocked as being unsafe. This make sense as it would be possible for a thief to shout "Alexa unlock the door" through the letter flap. If a voice command is really wanted I have found a work around but I won't detail it here. The bottom line is that if you have a Yale Keyless Lock and a mobile phone the purchase of this little item is a no brainer.I read reviews as they help my buying decisions. If this helps you please click the "helpful" so I know I am not wasting my time. ThanksUPDATEI have seen many comments on high battery drain with this kit. When I installed it the SmartThings app showed battery at 90% and that has not changed. I guess the battery level reporting is working as other sensors in the system are showing changes.

NOW it's a smart lock.
I purchased a Yale 'smart' door lock and it wasn't really that smart. Yes, the key fobs are easier than a key and you have the ability to use a code, but that was about it.After purchasing this, the lock is officially smart. I connected it to my SmartThings hub very quickly and easily. The instructions say to pair close to the hub, but as the lock was already on the door this wasn't possible. This wasn't a problem though, and it paired very quickly and easily. Now we are able to unlock from our phones, meaning we don't have to carry a big bunch of keys when going out drinking, or walking the dog etc. Bonus!I have also linked it so when the door is unlocked, it automatically disables the house alarm, and turns on the lights etc. There is also a history log in the SmartThings app so you can see exactly when the door is unlocked. We are able to unlock the door with a button we have hidden in the kitchen, so when the doorbell goes and we can see who it is on CCTV, we don't have to walk to the door to let them in (after typing that I realised how lazy that sounds).Highly reccommend this device... although I do think it should have come included with the original lock.

Watch out for battery life drain! Not a Yale issue.
The module is very easy to fit, and took less than a minute to pair with my Smartthings hub. It functions well. However, after about 24 hours of putting the module in I got a warning from ST that battery was at 1%. No way, I thought, that can't be right. The lock's barely a month old! I'll ignore it, I thought.Shortly after that, the lock started playing tunes at me to tell me that the batteries really were on their last legs. So, I replaced them.Three days later, same again, batteries flat. And again three days after that.At this rate, I'll have paid out more for batteries in a year than I did for the entire lock and module. I also need to make sure there's a 9v battery in the shed, in case I need to go on holiday for a week. So, not sure what's happening here, it really does function well. Just the one major drawback. I've contacted yale via their site, but I'm yet to get a response.Update: The issue was Alexa. I have removed Alexa from this device and all is now well.

Hard to pair and battery muncher.
I bought this to connect to SmartThings hub. It was simple to install however, it took perhaps 20 attempts to connect to the hub. It seemed to timeout the availability to be paired to the hub after only a few seconds as opposed to the 60s stated in the manual. I had to place the hub very close to the lock and eventually by zipping through the menu on the lock really quickly it managed to connect. It was almost like by the time I had clicked search in the app, and enabled the learn mode on the lock, the hub had already scanned past the freq the unit was operating at.It seemed to work fine for a day or so, then the lock showed disconnected. I removed the batteries and put back to reset and it was ok for a few hours then disconnected again. I moved the hub closer to the door and things improved but only for a day or so. I changed the batteries and it started working but only for a day. Never saw more than 2% battery level even with fresh good quality ones.I’ve returned for a refund. If you could get it to work off some sort of permanent 9v supply then maybe it might be alright, but just having lock or unlock and no remote access to schedule or users installed, it’s a pretty useless gimmick unless you are a SmartThings guru and can do more with it.Waste of time, batteries and money!!
