Read The Instructions; Just Buy It
I use this for doing stagehand work at a university theater with a heavy duty suspension grid. We've had a bolt come off of a shackle and fall from the very top of the grid to the floor of the stage, going through three layers of the rubberized mats that dancers like, as well a wooden floor panel. While I can't say that this helmet would stop what is essentially a rifle caliber projectile, I have enjoyed the ability to bonk heads with my fellow stagehands when we get very bored or silly around midnight. Getting the ratcheting in place is difficult if your brain is smoother than a river stone, but personally my IQ is above 83, so I managed. Additionally some simple acrylic paint on the top in the shape of a bullseye was easy to apply, so that if someone decides to drop anymore nuts/bolts/electronic cigarettes from the top of the grid, my chances of finally getting off of this wild ride we call life are greatly increased. If they miss me I then have good reason to yell up and berate their poor aim and get a good chuckle out of it all.Bottom line; you're buying this because you have to so just get the ratcheting set and read the instructions on the bag. It doesn't matter if I like it or Joe Blow hates it; this company sets the market standard for hard hats. Again, get the ratcheting style or forever be uncomfortable and un-cool.

Ratchet is awesome!
Beats the click and slide style any day. Haven't tested the impact resistance yet. Probably will today. I'll update then, if I'm still able to write.
