Need a 1/2 bench. Will 1/2 of this stand on its own against a wall?

Yes, you can use half of this circular bench to stand alone against a wall. It's hard to tell from the product photo, but there are two joints that are double-legged. Simply do not put on the double legs and you're all set!

What is the internal diameter of this bench?

The model we have is roughly two feet.

If the tree is too large, can you still use the bench but not attach the sides? Could you use this as 2 pieces if the tree is too large?

Yes the bench comes in two separate halves that do not have to be attached. In fact we ended up using 1/2 of the bench on one tree and the other 1/2 on another. You may have to anchor the feet (for example, concrete or wooden footings), depending on the ground and size of the tree (using other tools and materials you can also anchor to the tree itself).
