Akira, Vol. 2

You’re probably familiar with the story and if not, you should know it’s one of the seminal works in manga history, and even Japanese literature. My only point in this review is to point out if you’re a manga traditionalist, that this edition and all five other volumes are printed in *western* format. So read from left to right, not the common right to left format that manga fans may be used to.

Akira still stands head and shoulders above the competition. The pivotal and compelling stories of a group of low-life juvenile friends who find their fast-riding life style come into a literal collision with destiny. Gorgeous as it is grandiose Akira is painstakingly detailed and remains one of the only graphic novels that can truly be described as "a labor of love". If you are a fan of graphic novels that somehow missed this one, you need to read it. Now. For fans of the film who don't normally read comics, the same applies. There really is nothing else like it, this work needs to be experienced and appreciated for what it is: A stunning work of art.

I didn't really care much for the story, I honestly bought the Akira books for it's incredible art work to study for composition. I'm absolutely not disappointed, and it's a gold mine for studying artist trying to improve their visual story telling!

First off, Akira was one of the first few animes I've ever watched (Hokuto no Ken being one of my top tier favorites) and it's without a doubt a true classic. Secondly, I knew the manga would show at the minimum 50% more than what the original video animation showed and I was VERY satisfied with the original story development and conclusion. Finally, I bought all 6 volumes and it was one of the best purchases I've ever made online. I highly recommended that you own this very unique and awesome manga collection that's easily a top 10 of all time in my opinion. And also, in my opinion, nothing beats Berserk as far as Seinen manga is concerned ;).

Awesome! I'm just now reading these Mangas after loving the movie for many years. I like having a better understanding of what was going on with the gangs and military and such, the stuff the movie kinda just hints at. Like, there's all this civil unrest but you don't know why. Well, read these and it'll explain everything and with such amazing art. Akira was my 1st introduction into Japanese cartoons during the early 90's and it's awesome coming back to that.

Must own and read managa classic. Only compliant is that only the first 2-3 pages where redone in color rest are in it's original black and white. If you are going to tease with color go all out. Also a hard bound edition would have been nice. Ys the art is flipped for western reading but to me that is not a negative, to purist managa readers this might.

well akira 2 was spectacular i really enjoyed the anime and decided to give these giant editions of the manga a try, and to my delight the manga is much better. i recomend this manga to anyone who enjoyed the movie or to anyone who just enjoys science fiction because this is without a doubt one of the best science fiction graphic novels ever written enjoy!!

Peccatoche abbiano ribaltato le immagini per un ordine di lettura occentale. Da parte di uno che di manga non ne sa né ne vuole generalmente sapere, ma che è anche per un approccio filologico all'opera di altre culture (perché imbastardire qualcosa di straniero secondo il nostro gusto non ha senso: non è più originale, ma non è nemmeno nostro).

Havia assistido a animação primeiro, foi amor a primeira vista tornando-se pra mim a melhor animação já feita e adaptada. Evidentemente fui procurar o mangá, e optei por essa versão que a "Dark Horse" lançou nos EUA (pena eu não saber Japonês rs, então tive que ir de inglês mesmo). Mas valeu o investimento. A história é construída categoricamente em uma crescente, é imprevisível, e te faz ficar boquiaberto em várias ocasiões. A capa poderia ter sido melhor, ela é mole e o número de páginas é muito grande... Poderia ter tido um acabamento melhor (capa dura). Mas basicamente esse foi o único erro que encontrei. OBRIGATÓRIO PARA COLECIONADORES!

Increíble, ya no aguanto las ganas de leer esta obra qué cada vez se vuelve más interesante y entretenida, tratando temas tan adultos como la religión, el sexo y el consumo de drogas de una manera tan orgánica qué resulta increíble pensar qué es una lectura de hace ya algunos años, compra inmediata !!
