Is the ash brown darker or have a more black/charcoal tint to it compared to the dark brown?

No, the ash brown is lighter than dark brown. Darker than taupe, but lighter than brown. I wouldn’t say it has any black in it at all.

I have med. brown hair (not dark ), last one I purchased was simma brown & too dark. Would Med brown work for me?

I have dark drown hair and I use medium. I don’t like for my eyebrows to be or look dark. Not sure if that helps to your question. The brush helps as well to even it out and give it more natural look
