This 13 disc box set marks the 70th anniversary of the formation of Abbott and Costello, the American comedy duo whose work in radio, film and television made them one of the most popular and respected teams in comedy history. The Box Set includes all time classics such as 'Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein', 'In the Navy' and 'Buck Privates.' Bud Abbott (the tall thin straight one) and Lou Costello (the short fat clownish one) officially got together in 1936, and after achieving huge success with radio sketches, they moved into films in 1940. Universal Studios saw the commercial value in the pair and worked them like mules. The successful 'Buck Pirates' was their breakthrough film in 1941. It was from this point that they began to be seen as America's favourite comedy team and by the end of 1945 they had starred in 15 movies. The simple, farcical formula of their films was a winning combination as Abbott and Costello became the biggest box office success of the early 40's. Set includes the DVD - The World of Abbott and Costello - This film is a compilation of scenes from eighteen films that Abbott and Costello made for Universal Pictures between 1941 and 1955. Comedian Jack E. Leonard provides the narration for the film. Compilations of clips from 18 Abbott & Costello features: The Wistful Widow of Wagon Gap, In the Navy, Hit the Ice, Who Done It?, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, Mexican Hayride, Hold That Ghost, Abbott and Costello in the Foreign Legion, Little Giant, In Society, Ride 'Em Cowboy, The Naughty Nineties, Buck Privates Come Home, Buck Privates, Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Kops, Lost in Alaska, Comin' Round the Mountain, Abbott and Costello Go to Mars and Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy. I can tell you from the moment i started watching these films i began to laugh out loud. These guys still have it. I really enjoyed watching them. Universal Monsters
Great price for these 24 films. I bought it because of the universal monster's films: Meet Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Meet Frankenstein, Meet The Mummy, Meet The Invisible Man and Meet The Killer Boris Karloff. The rest was a bonus. All films are subtitled and there fore watchable if you are in a loud environment.

Certainly not Laurel and Hardy. Certainly is Abbott and Costello
Firstly let me get one thing straight, Abbott and Costello are not Laurel and Hardy, the two cannot be compared really apart from era, clothing, props and regional parts of the world. Abbott and Costello did far more radio and tv work than L and H and had their own spin on the gags - please lets not try to compare the two it just wont work. I remember Abbott and Costello on TV mainly, the films are really very funny and the format is quite daring, plots are adventurous and gags varied. I love these boys because they have something that was unique to them. If you want Laurel and Hardy then buy them, if you want Abbott and Costello then buy them - never, however try to compare, you may miss the joke whilst trying to do so.

My youth forced on my kids
I remember watching Abbott and Costello as a child, and the mummy and Frankenstein did scare me. Its nice to see that both my wife and children can enjoy this (black and white) collection of films as much as I did, though even an eight year old laughs at the monsters. Oh how time moves on. If you want a collection of films that remind you of a nice simpler time where films had no smut of nakedness, or you want to relive your youth, buy this box set. Well worth the price and who would have thought that children would rather watch these films than play a computer game?

A complete collection.
If you love golden age comedy you will love this. I had this in my basket for a while, always considering buying. Then i finally made the move, it has everything you may want from Lou and Bud. The early fillms are obviously a testing ground for theri style as in the firts of the set they are background characters, but you will see how they are quickly pulled in for the later filmd of which they are the main star. If you like Luarel and Hardy or Martin and Lewis then drop this along side them as a perfetc slapstick boxed set.

I received the Abbott and Costello videos but they don't play on either one of my DVD players!!! They're blank!! I'm very disappointed and I would like to know how I can return them!!!
