Project Hail Mary: A Novel : Weir, Andy: desertcart.in: Books Review: "An Epic Sci-Fi Adventure with Heart, Humor, and Brilliance" - Project Hail Mary is one of the most gripping, emotionally satisfying, and cleverly written sci-fi novels I’ve ever read. From the very first page, I was hooked by the mystery and momentum—and it never let go. The story blends science, survival, and humor with perfection. The pacing is spot-on: never slow, never rushed. Just like The Martian, Andy Weir’s signature wit shines through, but here he adds a surprising amount of heart and emotional depth—especially in the bond between the characters. The climax is absolutely epic, and the conclusion left me stunned in the best way. It’s not just a great sci-fi story—it’s a celebration of friendship, sacrifice, and problem-solving at the edge of the universe. If you want a book that makes you laugh, think, and maybe even tear up a little—this is it. A modern sci-fi classic. Review: This is how all science fiction should be written - Excellent story with unexpected twists and turns. The writing is simple and easy to follow. Andy Weir’s scientific rigor in the world building and in his character’s problem solving is impressive. This book will make you laugh, cry, think and learn at the same time.

Complicated yet entertaining
WHAT I LIKED As science fiction goes , I dare say , very few write plausible science in their fiction as Andy Weir does . The Martian comprised of a story that felt completely feasible , Project Hail Mary has some elements that want you to allow some far-fetched ideas into your logic , but overall the book delivers a strong and apparent plausible tale The book has a dual time line description throughout and it serves a wonderful purpose of delivering the thrills and hence making both timelines appealing, the characters , who initially feel one dimensional, really benefit from these timelines as their morality and their drive is revealed with each new timeline reveal There are 3 aliens in this book , and each one is created with a splendid concept ,making them unique but also sharing similarities , in turn there was also the concept of language , communicating, ecology and biology that were present with great intelligence But a Sci-fi book is made up of 2 parts science and fiction and while there's no doubt excellent science involved the fiction isn't too bad either , in fact the fiction is so good that it keeps you on the edge of your seat all the time , with a lot of thrills , suspense and unseen revelations WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: My main issue with this book is however a bit unfair , my main issue is that the main character isn't Mark Whatney from the Martian, and this book is no way near as funny as The Martian , I know it's wrong of me to compare the two books but both were written by the same man and share some similarities , but where Mark was a sarcastic jolly dude , Grace feels like the guy who relies on Dad jokes to come across as funny and honestly Grace wasn't charming at all he was just filled with cheesy lines and fake machismo. There is also a lack of empathy for the characters I couldn't relate to their sense of impending doom and their demise wouldn't feel sorrowful to me .Part of it is because of the science involved, it feels plausible but most tines it's too difficult to grasp, the science feels way too advanced and sometimes even multiple re reads don't make it easier . Conclusion: It's a fast paced fun science fiction with action aplenty and thrills throughout only bogged down by complicated science stuff which makes the book a difficult read . But honest to go it's a massive upgrade to 90%of science fiction out there

The ultimate page turner as described by many (Some spoilers ahead)
"Project Hail Mary" is a captivating blend of science fiction and human drama. The story is structured with a seamless flow between flashbacks and the present, which adds depth to the narrative and keeps the reader engaged. It helps unravel the mystery around the protagonist Ryland Grace's mission. I initially felt uncertain about how to relate to this non-human character when Rocky is introduced. I think I was hoping for a more human-like alien, perhaps even expecting a storyline where Grace might form a romantic attachment to a female alien character. This, in hindsight, was a naive and very predictable assumption. Rocky's distinct personality, culture, and appearance were initially challenging to relate to, but as the story progressed, I found myself growing deeply attached to both Grace and Rocky. Their relationship is the highlight of the book, showcasing a beautiful, unconventional bond based on mutual respect and understanding. The ending is both heartwarming and bittersweet. Without delving into spoilers, it left me reflecting on the themes of sacrifice, friendship, and the lengths some individuals will go to for the greater good of society. The story beautifully illustrates how some people dedicate their entire lives to science and the betterment of others, a message that resonates profoundly in today's world. Overall, it was a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant read that I highly recommend.

Such a beautiful and crazy book.
What an extraordinary book! I've just finished it, and honestly, mere words can't convey the depth of my emotions. The 8-10 hours spent immersed in its pages were truly among the most profound of my life. If I could, I'd forfeit anything for the chance to experience it again as if for the very first time. The premise—a man on an interstellar mission to save Earth and humanity—might sound clichéd, but believe me, this book shatters all expectations of boredom. I was captivated from the opening page. By the third chapter, a powerful connection had formed, sending shivers down my spine, making it utterly impossible to set aside. The narrative's beauty was such that I simultaneously wished it would never end and yet found myself compelled to finish it in a single sitting. There was even a moment when my vision blurred from tears, a testament to the sheer emotional resonance of the story. The surge of excitement, the gnawing anxiety, the pure happiness, and the rekindling of my love for all things astrophilic—these feelings are simply beyond description. The writing is incredibly lucid and brilliant, making even high-level physics comprehensible to anyone. I didn't just read this book; I truly lived within its pages. I don't know how much justice the movie will do, but I'm glad I lived this story through the book, and no movie adaptation can come close to this. My lifelong aspirations of becoming an astronomer, venturing into distant galaxies, and traveling through space remained unfulfilled (and realistically, modern astronomers don't physically explore other galaxies). However, Andy Weir's masterpiece allowed me to embark on that journey, and I'm currently overwhelmed by an indescribable sense of wonder.

Well balanced Sci-fi adventure-horror book
My first book from Andy Weir blindly ordered book from Amazon after knowing he left Software Career and his Martian movie based on his book. A well written book for space needs, neatly balanced fiction and science that each chapters were super exciting and joy to read, good thing about this book is detailed explanation of how-things-work taken references from actual experts. This book fulfills all the fun, decision-making, astrophysics, computers, molecular biology, space-horrors, alternate intelligence findings and space adventure.
