Lovely brushes
The media could not be loaded. I bought these to glaze my pottery with. I have been wanting to paint some Japanese style paintings on my mugs and was looking for some nice brushes to see what size and style I prefer. I really love the pack size and different brush types with the case being a wonderful addition. The value is definitely there with this pack being extremely affordable and appears to be good quality. Excited to see how they work!

Poor quality Brushes
Didn't liked these brushes. It seems poor quality and the hairs fall appart every time I paint...

Everything You Need to Get Started Except Ink and Paper
Do you need the fancy Qing Dynasty inkwell with jade engravings?! No, use a red plastic cup. This set is fine for getting started and learning the different brush types, and even after the brushes have been abused to the point of no return, the bamboo roll-up mat can still be used for other brushes/as a mat to protect your writing surfaces. Even so, the brushes are not that bad, although anyone used to more expensive kits will notice the difference. I use this as a travel kit, so the brushes don't get worn out too much since they're not used too often. I think it's perfect as a gift for someone who is serious about calligraphy but may also travel, or for a beginner or something.

Beautiful set of brushes. Work beautifully. Would order again. And the covers fit back on used brushes for good care and longevity.

Sheds too much
The company that makes these needs to spend more time, thought, money on the actual brushes and less on the bamboo container they come in.The art of making brushes is long practiced in China. They know how to make these so that the hairs stay in the brush, not in the painting. These were thrown together without care.. . .After posting this review the Seller (Manufacturer?) contacted me and apologized and said that the hair shedding should stop after an initial break-in period. And the shedding does seem to have stopped. Still, it has been twenty or more years since I bought a brush that lost so much hair. The techniques to prevent this are widely used by other brush manufacturers, and they work. So I don't know, but I did appreciate the contact from the Seller.
