Electro-Harmonix Op Amp Big Muff Pi Fuzz Pedal

This pedal just changed everything. Where was this all my life? It’s ridiculously good. It loves my MXR Rockman, and reverb makes it sound huge. Just on its own it’s incredible. It’s a whole, complete thing in and of itself that enhances everything else.

Sounds great. It’s not picky about placement in signal chain.Love’s a Blues Driver, or a Tube Screamer before it. This will stay on the pedal board. Worth the money for a sturdy build quality pedal.

Impeccable tone paired through an entry level modeling amp (blackstar IDcoreV4). Awesome for stoner/sludge rock. Great build quality and design. I recommend lowering the gain and maxing the volume on your amp, then using the pedal's volume knob as the de-facto volume control; this is how I was able to get the best tone.

As most of you who are thinking about buying this pedal already know, this is the pedal that was said to be used on the Smashing Pumpkins “Siamese Dream” album. It has that iconic, thick 90s fuzz tone that not only sounds like “Siamese Dream” but can also be tweaked to sound like most 90s bands that used fuzz like Bush, Collective Soul etc. It is also worth mentioning that the price is fairly cheap for a pedal of this caliber. It is heavy in weight so you know it is not cheaply made. Now I know that most of you notice that the price on Amazon is higher than most other music gear sites. While that is true, most of the other sites(at the time of this review) don’t have this pedal in stock and after paying shipping/taxes, you may end up paying 5-10 dollars(or the same amount)more on Amazon but they have it in stock and you get the pedal in a couple of days. I’m not recommending one or the other but do the cost benefit analysis for yourself. Lastly, if you hook up this pedal and immediately start playing “Cherub Rock” you will notice the tone sounds basically identical but something is off....what is it?!? According to my basic research, the band actually layered multiple guitar tracks in order to achieve the exact sound on the album. So what I’m saying is don’t get discouraged if your riff doesn’t sound JUST like the album because it is impossible unless you layer multiple guitar tracks. But this pedal gets you 95% the way there and that’s good enough for me.

Some people opine for the vintage version of this pedal, but I wanted something I could get now without breaking the bank. This pedal makes it easy to dial in those classic Pumpkins sounds, and it doesn't break the bank or take up too much space on my pedalboard. If you are on the fence between this one and trying to find a vintage one, look up the video where Billy Corgan discusses them both.

The tones in this pedal are nothing short of amazing. Some of the high notes are not as clean as I would like, especially after doing a cowboy or compound bend. That could be my pickups though. If you are looking for a big fuzz sound with killer sustain then this is your pedal.
