Perfect Kitchen Helper for Home Cooks!
Now I've had my Bosch Mum Food Mixer for almost a month and have used it extensively, I feel I can write a helpful review to lay some ghosts to rest. First up, I was very nearly put off buying this wonderful device because of a couple of negative reviews. I'm so glad that I ignored those comments and decided to give the Bosch a try. To call this just a food mixer is almost an insult to all the functions this kitchen gadget can successfully carry out. I'll admit that I was just looking for a reasonable stand mixer when I purchased this but I liked the idea that the Bosch Mum had the other attachments as well. Had I just gone for one of those glossy stand mixers that I was tempted by, I'd really be missing out now. Here's my pros and cons: PROS: 1) More than just a stand mixer - you also get a blender/liquidiser, citrus press and continuous shredder/slicer accessory. 2) The mixer DOES mix small batches properly, the bowl is raised in the middle and the whisk attachments move all around the sides of the bowl. I have whisked the contents of 3 small egg whites into meringue with no problems. 3) It IS POWERFUL ENOUGH for the average home cook. I don't kid myself that I'm some amazing chef. I'm a home cook with a small family, I love to cook and I cook meals daily. This machine hasn't struggled on power with anything. Someone cooking on a professional level will probably require a machine with a motor more powerful than the 550 watts this one provides. 4) The size of the bowl is great if you're normally cooking for 2-6 people. I normally cook for 3 and require smallish quantities for which the bowl is never more than half full. But I've also made food for 6 with no issues at all. 5) Small and light enough to keep out on your worktop at all times. I have the Bosch out permanently and I also have all the accessories out on the worktop except the juicer which is large and isn't something I tend to use. The accessories do take up quite a bit of space but are very useful which is why I keep mine out because they get used a lot. 6) Looks quite smart - not as smart as those glossy mixers but smart enough for the average kitchen and luckily our accessories are black. It all seems to be well made from sturdy plastic (shredders and cutters are metal) apart from the bowl splash cover which I've never yet needed to use. 7) Mixer has been used to make meringue, sponge cakes, rich fruit cakes (use the dough hook when all the fruit needs to be mixed in,) batter, cookie mixes and loads more. Not had any issues. Yes you might need to scrape mix off the whisk if it's sticky - I imagine this would be the case with any mixer. I haven't made any bread dough because I have a bread machine but if it doesn't struggle to make a huge and thick fruit cake, I can't imagine it would struggle with dough either. 8) Blender has been used to make curry paste, soups and milkshakes. As I've never had a blender, I'm loving this feature. You simply push the Bosch Mum arm so it's pointing right down, take the cap off and push and twist the blender on. It makes delicious, frothy milk shakes with ease. Yum. 9) Continuous shredder/slicer attachment - essentially this is like a dumbed down food processor. I love the fact that you can shred or slice things right into the supplied bowl or another bowl or plate. It's easy to use once you know how it all attaches together (tip look up bosch mum videos on youtube) and I use this feature loads. It grates and slices everything I need for pizza toppings, quiches, curries, fruit pies and more - and fast. Pizza toppings and quiches are so easy now because I just slice and grate all the items in a flash. You can grate cheese on the coarse side of the shredder blade (there is a fine and coase side for each blade) but as cheese is sticky, leave it till last as it can clog it up if you're doing loads. You will probably need the coarse side for most items although I made a delicious Apple Tart with ultra fine sliced apple. It doesn't cut chunky chip shapes but I think you can buy a blade which does. 10) I love this device so much I'm doing more home cooking than ever and now having to watch my waist line! CONS: 1) It doesn't look quite as attractive as some of the (more expensive) food mixers. If you're more interested in how a kitchen gadget looks than its actual usefulness, this could be an issue. 2) Although the machine itself is pretty compact, you'll need some storage space for all the accessories because they do take up some room. 3) The instructions are not the best. However, I picked up lots just by watching a ton of youtube videos on Bosch Mum - most of the Mum devices work in a similar fashion so don't just look up this specific machine. OVERALL: Love, love, love this Kitchen Machine/Helper. I'm so thankful that I decided to give it a try. It's been brilliant to use, a joy to use actually and yes I would buy another Bosch Mum again if I had to. You can buy other accessories (different blades, mincer etc) for this and a spare bowl from a UK Bosch website by the way. If you class yourself as a home cook who enjoys cooking for a small to medium sized family, you should love this machine. Hope that helped.

Great mixer if you can't afford or don't want a bigger one.
I spent a very long time researching food mixers and in the end I decided to go for this one. For starters it's made by Bosch, so you know that this is going to be very well made. It has a slightly brushed stainless steel coating so it doesn't show the marks as much as a shiny steel one would. It's pretty compact compared to some of the other mixers I've seen and this means that it can stay out on my kitchen counter all the time and still be big enough to mix up all my cake mixtures. So far I have used it for - Mixing cakes - Using the beater attachment it mixes cakes beautifully. It is able to pick up all of the mixture from the sides and bottom without me needing to intervene. So far I have made 8oz cake mixes but I can tell that it would handle larger mixes easily. I made a coffee and walnut cake that I have made several times before and it definitely came out lighter than it would normally be. Butter icing - Again using the beater it is able to make a lovely batch of fluffy butter icing in no time. Using the plastic covering means that you don't get the icing sugar everywhere. Whipping cream - Using the whisk attachment I couldn't believe how quickly this whipped up a large tub of double cream. It was at least twice as fast if not 3 times as fast as my electric hand whisk. Also it really is great to be able to leave it whipping your cream whilst you go off and do other things. Slicer attachment - I had a very quick go with this and was able to mostly slice some carrots. I think more time is needed to get used to this as it seemed to chop my carrots in to lovely even rings and then about half way down the carrot would fall on it's side and then the rest would be sliced in long strips. I think it would work great with thicker carrots but struggle a little with thinner ones. This is fine as this isn't really why I bought the mixer. Grater - I haven't tried to grate anything but I did have great results with grinding pecan nuts. I thought I would give it a go as I didn't have anything else I could use as a grinder. I put the disc in on the fine setting and it ground the pecans beautifully. Juicer - I haven't tried this yet as it's a bit too much messing about just for one lemon or orange. I will definitely try it next time I make a lemon cheesecake and need several lemons. Overall I would definitely recommend this mixer if you are like me and want a good quality mixer that isn't too big or too pricey. It has so far performed every task with ease and I am looking forward to baking many more cakes with this. The only downside I can think of is that the electrical cord is only about a meter long so if you can't get it close to a socket then you will need to buy an extension lead.

Very disappointed
I had this food mixer for 9 months. I have a small baby so I mostly used the mixer to blend steamed vegetables into purées. I used it daily, but I did not make it crush particularly hard things. Or anything like that. The mixer stood securely on the kitchen table and never fell or was bumped. Nevertheless after 9 months the outer shell cracked and the plusticblender jug broke. After just 9 months!!! I called in to claim the insurance and was told it does not include spare parts. After some discussion Bosch did agree to send me the two parts that broke for free. But whereas a jug is easy to replace, the outer shell of the motor is not. Once we put it apart we could not put it back go ether any more. So I had to buy a new blender. I did not expect o have to replace something I spent more than a 100£ on after just 1 month. Very bad quality plastic parts.

Great product, great customer service from Amazon
We recently bought that mixer, to replace an old hand-held mixer that broke. We picked it because we needed a more "serious" mixer that we can actually use to make cakes and other more elaborate things than beat eggs. The pricing on the item was very attractive, thanks to the 30% sale (at the time we bought it). The reviews were good, so we ended up picking it up. The delivery to France was fast, as usually with Amazon, however one of the plastic cups in the package was broken beyond repair. After contacting Amazon, they agreed to replace the item and even payed the total of the return shipping, which went up to 40 euros for a package that big to be sent back to the UK. The new mixer arrived fast, we've used it a couple of times now and so far it's been perfect. The main mixing part does an awesome job of not leaving ingredients and the bottom of the bowl, thanks to the shape of the bowl (you'll see if you buy it) and the movement of the mixing attachment. The sound level is absolutely normal, it is easy to use and comes with a lot of functions, attachments and things. We give it four stars because of the only drawback - this model doesn't come with a real chopper, you get some some slicing and grating discs but that can't really replace a chopper for chopping onions, meat or anything, which is sad since it has so many other things that are, atleast in my kitchen, used more rarely than a chopper is. You can buy the chopper attachment separately, but it costs almost as much as the whole mixer, so we'll have to pass on that.

mainly because I like and trust Bosch products and know they are well ...
I took a while doing my research, working out if I wanted a Food Mixer or Food Processor. For me, it has to be a Food Mixer. I knew I wanted Bosch, mainly because I like and trust Bosch products and know they are well made and last for years. Having said that, it has taken a while ( considerably longer than I thought ) for me to become friends with my new mixer !! I cook frequently, but had to watch the demo link a lot, to work out how exactly the attachments were fitted on, and worked. In the end, so great was my frustration ( also please note my Partner - a clever man had studied & fiddled with said attachments, read & re-read the poorly written leaflet - all to no avail !! ) I took my mixer and all the attachments to my local friendly electricity shop ! I explained my problem ( in this case to fix the juicer properly ) & was asked to leave it with them, and do some shopping elsewhere. I went back as requested an hour later, and they said it had taken the 2 engineering experts ( who deal with all types of enquiries day in day out; plus a third electrical expert ) !! The three of them scratched their heads and couldn't figure this daft attachment out ! Then ! One of them spied a plastic " thing " ( no idea what this is actually called !! ) ! Transpires this was the answer to all frustrations as it screws in & then it's plain sailing ! The point is, it took too many ghastly frustrating weeks for me to find this out ! The lady in the demo video makes no reference to " IT " & because the leaflets are so poorly written you are scrabbling around in the dark. Angst dealt with - it is beautifully designed, great to look at and does the jobs of beating, whisking etc like a dream. It is also wonderfully quiet. So please take note of these comments Bosch this mixer is not cheap, and certain areas need to be re-organised - for all our sakes ! So, please re-think your demo video and likewise your instruction leaflet ! We are not stupid, but do want to understand and enjoy our new investment ! Thank you !

Brilliant Bosch
I looked long and hard for an affordable mixer and read endless reviews before deciding on the Bosch MUM. I would have loved a kitchenaid or Kmix but really couldn't justify the price. I was lucky to buy my Bosch MUM as an Amazon Warehouse deal but even at full price I would feel I had got value for money. I am so pleased I bought the MUM, it does everything I need from a mixer and is far quieter than some other mixers out there. On the looks front it's more practical utility than retro chic but I need it to help with my baking not enter a fashion show. The planetary mixing action really mixes in all the ingredients and if you start on the lowest setting for a couple of seconds there is no need for the splash guard. I have used it to make bread dough, cake mix, whip cream and egg whites and the citrus press is a great little attachment. I have used the slicer which was great but have not tried the liquidiser yet as I use this machine primarily as a food mixer. Yes it flexes, especially when mixing heavy cake mixes or bread dough, don't let that put you off; all stand mixers need to be able to flex - if it didn't flex it would snap! Just make sure that you read the instructions and use the correct setting for the ingredients you are mixing/blending. The clever design means it takes up far less room than many other stand mixers, it's easy to clean and it's motor really packs a punch. It's coped with everything I have asked it to do and I use it an awful lot. As an earlier reviewer said; I love my MUM.

My new best friend - works well, looks great - save money buy this
This machine works beautifully, testament to great engineering - have used it on all my favourite cakes and bread and vegetable prep and the results have been great. In answer to some common questions: Yes - you will need to scrape the side to ensure everything is fully mixed but no more than in other mixers like Kitchen Aid or Kenwood No - this model doesn't have the storage rack for blades that come with the more expensive model but all the mixer paddles fit neatly into the bowl. I love it so much I wish I had bought the model with storage rack and a few more gadgets. In light of recent events the mincer attachment would have been very useful. Yes - the mixer is very neat and has a small footprint. So you could pack it away but it also looks great so I keep mine out and collect compliments. Yes - it is really easy to clean a quick wipe with a micropore cloth and the bodywork gleams, the bowl and blades clean very easily in sink. Two tips: 1) mixer has park setting that puts the mixer paddles in correct spot to lift clear of the bowl 2) Watch the DVD that comes with the product for instructions and recipes. Also look on YouTube there are some great ideas for using the product. So BSH Home Appliances good job for stocking this at a good price. I am really surprised that this machine form Bosch isn't wiping the floor with other more expensive products, it is a quality product that looks great

decent machine but not very sturdy
I am writing this review after using this machine for 4 months or so I was initially impressed with its versatility and the ease of use and the less space it can fit in soon all these positive start to disappear after a while when you realise that it is not as sturdy as you would like to think because of bosch brand, it is fiddly to assemble and disassemble which unfortunately you have to do after every use, its spindle which contributes to 30% of its function is so weak that it can snap in no time and essentially you cant use any of its grating function then, bosch also does not offer any customer redressal service which leaves the customer in a bit of limbo to find their own course which again is very disappointing.
