Diamonds And Pearls Super Deluxe Edition (Limited 7CD + Blu-ray Edition)

Possibly my favourite Prince album in its original form, certainly I found it to be his most consistent and while other albums would have a couple of absolute gems on them there would be a few not so hot tracks. I am not really a fan of a box set built around a single album as a few I have bought are packed out with remixes and outtakes that are only worth hearing once or twice, so when I saw this box had 3 CDs of outtakes I was sure I wouldn’t be bothering them much. Most of them turned out to be really good, Prince really was on form and was astoundingly prolific at this time. What really makes this box set a must buy for anyone with an interest in Prince is the live show from Glam Slam 1992. This is amongst the greatest concert recordings I have. The band are as tight as it gets, the energy levels are just this side of spontaneous combustion, the setlist is top notch and the performances of all involved are an absolute pleasure to listen to.

This is EXCELLENT . More tracks from the famous "vault" . We need more like this . Keep 'em coming .

It’s worth it just for the Blu-ray.

Nice to experience this album remastered, along with the singles, b-sides and extended versions, very nicely put together, but it is the Vault discs that steal the show. As with previous super deluxe releases from the Prince Estate, it is bewildering how a lot of the tracks were not released. Open Book is incredible, also Get Blue, the fabulous Metallica like Blood On The Sheets, Pain, Darkness, Standing At The Alter, Spirit, Something Finky This House Comes, Streetwalker &The Voice are worth it alone. You then have superb live performances and also a BluRay which includes the Diamonds and Pearls videos.

Loved this album when it was originally released in 1991. This SDE is very well presented and it is great to hear the vault tracks from this period. The sound quality is fantastic throughout. Prince purists will be disappointed that some of the tracks from this time are not present like "Player" and "I wonder". The B sides disc has also scandalously omitted "Clocking the jizz" from the Gett off maxi single. The book excellently details the tracks recording dates and has some detailed information about the recording process etc. Will be interesting to see which album the estate selects next for the SDE treatment.

This set is great, not quite as great as the Sign O' The Times set form 2020, but still pretty good, offering fans new songs (some of which will be familiar to those seeking out bootlegs), but is great overview of the Diamonds and Pearls era. the packaging is really good, the book informative and the Blu Ray concert excellent, showing Prince at his showman best

「Sign O The Times」の時も書いたけど、特典のLPジャケットサイズの写真集とかいらないんだけどなあ。 ディスクと歌詞カードだけのパッケージがあったら絶対そっちを買っていた。 このエディションの配信もあるんで、物理媒体がなくてもいい人、ライブ映像がいらない人はそっちで買った方がいいと思う。 配信だと一応ハイレゾだし。 内容は例によって大変素晴らしい。

The best super deluxe edition of any Prince album so far. Prince recorded this album with a great band as opposed to playing all instruments by himself like on previous albums. Recording with a real band no doubt improves the groove. Just listen to Darkside which is a highlight as far as I am concerned.
