Very easy. I have no problem getting the blade off.

What does "renewed" mean?

I would imagine that it is not a new one but has been gone over or repaired to good working condition.

Can I use it to make mash potatoes?

Never tried it but if crushes Ice and whips up ice cream... just make sure you start slowly not to make a mess just in case.
