Can anyone confirm where this is made?

Is the rubber sanding block easy to grip for people with small hands?

I would say yes. However the problem with this product is that the nails that hold the paper are too long which makes it VERY difficult to change the paper. I don't even use mine anymore. It;s in the back of a drawer. I find the best sanding block is my 2x2 & 2x4 blocks. I just wrap the paper around & get after it. I hope this helps & good luck with your sanding!!!

Lots of bad reviews is it as good as people say?

This is basic sandpaper, as reflected by the price. It is meant for bare wood sanding and the like. For a longer lasting paper, a different grade such as aluminum oxide paper, should be selected. There is nothing wrong with this paper.

Is there a way to remove the smell from these or an alternative that lacks the stench?

The rubber is what smells. So unless you can find one that is made from alternative material, the smell well always be there.
