Works as designed for my use
I bought two of these in different lengths to hopefully keep outside lengths of potable water hose from freezing. One hose runs from an outside hose bib on my house into a valve which feeds an underground PEX run. The other hose connects the PEX where it comes out of the ground into a travel trailer city water inlet. The travel trailer sees winter use so I wanted to keep the water flowing. I live in Fayetteville NC so bitter bouts of cold are not typical here but there are times when the outside temperature will not get above freezing for a few days.I attached this product to my hoses using a specialized heating cable application tape (Easy Heat HCA 30-Foot by 1/2-Inch Cold Weather Valve and Pipe Heating Cable Application Tape) which I bought here on Amazon. I then wrapped the hoses and heating cable with self sealing outdoor rated foam rubber insulation (like foam noodles that people use in pools but these are rated for outdoor pipe insulation). The plug ends of these cables have what I'm guessing is a small neon bulb that lights to indicate that the system has power applied. This is a useful benefit to visually verify that power is applied to the system. I find this feature very valuable, although I didn't think much of it when I was purchasing these items. The past couple of weeks have been exceptionally cold (for my location). Low temperatures at night have been below 20F and there have been a few days where the high temperature has not approached freezing. I have to say that these things work. The travel trailer had continuous flowing water through the hoses that are heated with this product. The travel trailer has a propane furnace that keeps the baseline temperature comfortable so the interior PEX plumbing is not an issue. For the outdoor supply lines though, these are working well.I have seen questions as to whether these products can be used with flexible hoses such as garden hoses instead of only being useful for copper, PVC, CPVC, etc. So far, the products have presented no problem with the application on the water hoses. As other reviews and questions mention, my hoses are always water filled.

Worked perfectly for our hydrant
I have an older "frost free" hydrant that will still freeze over if temps get below 10 degrees. We have to water livestock daily and carrying 5 gallon buckets from the house to the field is not an option! This worked perfectly this past week with 10 degrees and lower temps all week we even had 1 night -15 degrees and we didn't lose water access.I highly recommend. It has a lighted plug so you know for certain that the heat tape is getting power and working properly!

Economical and Reliabler, Very Pleased
I saw bad reviews on these heaters so I first bought a 3 foot and put it in the freezer. I took it out and it was toasty warm. The 3 foot heaters are only 25 watts so they are unlikely to overheat anything. I used that one on a pipe up in the attic to prevent freezing. Then I bought two 3 foot heaters for my swimming pool skimmers so they don't freeze. I put two 9 foot heaters in the urn fountain reservloir outside our kitchen table. It is currently 5 degrees F outside and the fountain is running like a charm with no ice at all. I am very happy with this product. I think the people who thought the thermostats don't work didn't get it cold enough to turn them on. They turn on at 38 degrees F so you need to put them in the freezer to be sure they will turn on.

So far so good
I put this in my pumphouse to keep my 1-1/2" PVC water lines from freezing up. I ran it underneath the pipe then wrapped it in fiberglass pipe insulation (fire resistant) so the warmth would rise and stay near the pipe. The thermostat is on the very end of the cable, opposite end as the plug. I left that part exposed so it would quickly recognize the temperature. It comes on when its freezing, and puts out quite a bit of heat. I debated whether or not to insulate over the pipe also, in my case I don't think it will be necessary as it rarely goes below 20f, but I did it anyway and so far it has not been an issue. Gives me some peace of mind, saves a trip out there to plug in my timer and heater, and is way less energy than running a space heater out there all night.I've heard some say they don't last very long, and some say to replace them yearly anyway for fire safety. That would be inconvenient, but from a cost perspective, buying one of these every year would still be cheaper than running my space heater or a wall cadet unit overnight in the winter. If your winters are not extreme (below zero degrees) You can probably get away with keeping a faucet on slow drip. I've done that in the past with success, and it helps protect pipes in the house, but that is also one more thing to remember to do before going to bed.

So far it's done it's job.
Got it for about 12 feet of water line coming up from my well. Also put foam insulation around it, so far no issues. Hasn't been any colder than 17 so far this year here but have had no issues as of writing this. Should my pipes freeze, or burst into flames from this being too warm, then I'll be sure to update. But so far it's been good.
