Product Description Time to pull on the vest one more time as Bruce Willis reprises his role of John McClane, everyday NY cop with a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Set in Washington DC, this fourth instalment of the franchise, finds McClane routinely asked to bring in a computer hacker, Matt Farrell (Justin Long) for questioning. In transit, events overtake them as they witness a full-scale cyber attack on the country's infrastructure led by mystery attacker Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Oliphant), who plans to systematically shut down or destroy the nation's major networks over three days. With time running out, McClane and his hacker friend have to stop the mastermind before it's too late. Yippee Ki Yay. desertcart.co.uk Review Twelve years after Die Hard with a Vengeance, the third and previous film in the Die Hard franchise, Die Hard 4.0 finds John McClane (Bruce Willis) a few years older, not any happier, and just as kick-ass as ever. Right after he has a fight with his college-age daughter (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a call comes in to pick up a hacker (Justin Long, Dodgeball) who might help the FBI learn something about a brief security blip in their systems. Now any Die Hard fan knows that this is when the assassins with foreign accents and high-powered weaponry show up, telling McClane that once again he's stumbled into an assignment that's anything but routine. Once that wreckage has cleared, it is revealed that the hacker is only one of many hackers who are being targeted for extermination after they helped set up a "fire sale," a three-pronged cyberattack designed to bring down the entire country by crippling its transportation, finances, and utilities. That plan is now being put into action by a mysterious team (Timothy Olyphant, Deadwood, and Maggie Q, Mission: Impossible 3) that seems to be operating under the government's noses. Die Hard 4.0 uses some of the cat-and-mouse elements of Die Hard with a Vengeance along with some of the pick-'em-off-one-by-one elements of the now-classic original movie. And it's the most consistently enjoyable installment of the franchise since the original, with eye-popping stunts (directed by Len Wiseman of the Underworld franchise), good humour, and Willis's ability to toss off a quip while barely alive. Yippee-ki-ay! --David Horiuchi Review: Great - Almost a classic. Review: Brilliant fun and possibly factual - * Summary Many college-level coder are, without their knowledge, individually contributing to a rogue ex-senior military coder bent on revenge for being unfairly sacked. Once paid, the coders who contribute are killed. One such coder is in line to be killed, but lucky for him, is being arrested by John McClane and the two begin to try and sort out the three-level attack on the countries infrastructure with many physical attacks and loss of lives. Its a race against time as who wins? * Commentary It's written in the late 1990s so if it turned accurate in the decades following is good design information. The three leads work well, Bruce Willis, Justin Long and Timothy Olyphant. The technical integration of computers and services and the intense level of complexity with low security between these systems is possibly true. It's a good movie that stands up to repeated viewing. Update: I have researched online about 'I.O.T' (Internet of Things) and this film plot is possible in parts. If you want to see just use Youtube and the broader information of the web and google I.O.T. The stories I have come up with are thought-provoking. For example, you can buy a web-enabled kettle. This has poor design security. A hacker can use WiFi to get around this poor security to find the password to your router and get into your computer network. Another, a web-enabled car can be hacked to block your key and lock you out of it and be held to ransom. It's very sad the actor is succumbing to a form of Dementia. My dad passed away with this and other complications. It's a terrible way to go.

The best Die Hard movie???
Obviously the first Die Hard was the best one out of the series and possibly the best action movie of its time. The second movie was also really good and the promise of a great franchise of films looked on the horizon, then there came the disappointing ending of Die Hard 3 which ruined a good film and it looked like the end. When Die Hard 4 was mentioned, with another director, I was very skeptical and I had to watch it a couple of times, but its now one of my favourite action movies ever. The only reason I don't watch the first film any more is that I've seen it sooooo many times. Roll on Die Hard 5 - In Russia no less.

McClane is BACK!
Die Hard first started in 1988 and then followed up with Die Hard 2 in 1990 and then Die Hard with a vengeance in 1995. It was therefore a 12 year gap before Die Hard 4 was released. For those of you who aren't familiar with the movie here is the background of the story and characters. John McClane is an NYPC Cop...with an attitude. He never plays by the rules and does things his way. He was married to Holly McClane and they have two children. He is renowned for breaking the rules and in the first three films he is challenged beyond all limits with various terrorists attacking various people and places. Die Hard: John McClane goes to visit his estranged wife Holly at Christmas Time over in Los Angeles. She works at the Nakatomi Building and John kind of gatecrashes the party in an attempt to make peace with Holly. In the middle of the party Hans Gruber and his men show up. Their intention is to steal the money that is stashed in the buildings vault making them millionaires. It is John McLane's intention to not only stop them but save the hostages they have taken as well one of which is his wife. Die Hard 2: A group of terrorists are taking over Dulles Airport and are threatening to start crashing airplanes unless their demands are met. John McClane is there to meet his wife Holly who is one of those airplanes. McClane realises that the airport security and police can't handle this sort of threat so goes it alone in a bid to stop the terrorists from carrying out their threat. Die Hard with a Vengeance: A man calling himself Simon decides to play a game of `Simon Says' with McClane. John accidentally gets caught up in a game that could turn deadly. A Harlem dry cleaner is added into the mix (played by Samuel L Jackson) and together they play the game with the hope of catching this madman before people get killed by his threats of a bomb exploding in a local school. They soon discover that not only does this man have the potential to blow places up, but he is after the gold that is stored at the Federal Reserve Bank. After the 12 year gap they brought us Die Hard 4. Expectations were high, especially for McClane fans like me. What they brought us didn't disappoint. Thomas Gabriel is a bitter man. He is determined to halt the entire US with any means possible. He want's everybody to know the power that he has and just what he is prepared to do to prove his point. In the opening of the film we meet Matt Farrell who is an ordinary young man except his hobby is to hack into anything and everything. He is on the FBI's watch list as he has previously hacked into websites he shouldn't have. John McClane who is now a bit of a deadbeat spends his time when he should be on duty spying on his ex-wife and daughter Lucy. When the call comes in to go and fetch Matt Farrell it should have been an easy task. When he eventually gets to Farrell all hell breaks loose and he ends up saving his life and speeding away. His only task is to get Farrell to the FBI. Along the way the pair of them realise just how much is at stake when Gabriel starts shutting down traffic lights and creating disasters at the flick of a button. They make an unlikely partnership, but when Gabriel kidnaps McLane's daughter Lucy it gets personal and John will do anything to get her back. The fourth instalment in the Die Hard series, in some ways the best. We get to see McClane as the has-been. He is a techno-phobe who does things his way and when he gets partnered up with Farrell it makes for some very funny viewing. There is a lot more sarcastic undertone humour in this one that in previous Die Hard's. I also loved Farrell as the sidekick; they made an unlikely but fantastic on screen pair. The action was as usual high-octane and seriously overloaded. I only had one complaint in that there is a scene with a fighter jet that just pushed over to the side of being too far fetched (even for my hero McClane). The writers have pleased fans with Bruce Willis' famous lines and some new one liners that had me belly laughing. I also thought the casting was perfect for McClane's daughter Lucy (played by Mary Winstead). She was absolutely perfect for the part and fitted in a treat. Don't get me wrong, although I really liked this I still favour the Original Die Hard and don't think you can beat a baddie like Hans Gruber. All in all I am waiting with baited breath to see if they can persuade Bruce to make the 5th one.

One of my all time best films
Die Hard 4.0 for me is his best film, his role as the cop that never gives up is just great in this particular movie, out of the many die hard films, for me this is the best one. I'm waiting for the price to come down on Prime Video so I can get it there too.

Thrilling movie about cyber terrorism.
Another master movie casting Bruce wills and Timothy Olyphant. Set in modern day world about a real threat which is cyber terrorism and the huge impact it can have on a country where things are mostly online and controlled on a network.

Okay but a bit disappointing
As a Die Hard film and someone who loves the follow ups albeit not as much as the first one, this film lacks storyline and is nowhere near as good as the other two sequels.

Die Hard 4 is great - Watch it!...
Yes Its as good as the others, It starts off slow burning with the expected faces, then wham, Action everywhere, quick one liners like ^whys this aways happen to me!^, and ^you just killed a hellicoptor with a car, Does this happen to you often?^, about half-way I guessed id seen it all, then he play chicken in a truck against a F17 fighter aeroplain and wins, only to end up on top of the plain and then of course escape distruction and save the day, By shooting him-self to kill the enermy?. Yes this is an insane action packed movie, and bruce willis pulls off believable acting and action to revite you to your seat. Totally enjoyable and worth the wait. Buy this you will love it!.

No, this movie does not compare to the original DIE HARD. Let's just get that out of the way right off the top, shall we? I frankly can't imagine any movie comparing. It was one of those rare movies that turns an entire genre on its head...or even invents a new genre. How many DIE HARD rip-offs have there been? Many of them awful...and many of them pretty good...but still, they are knock-offs. SPEED? DIE HARD on a bus. Still a great movie...but it didn't feel 100% original. DIE HARD did. Simple as that. I still watch that film and thrill to it...I may know everything that's coming...but it is so well-crafted and structured...so well edited and acted...you just see over and over why it is unmatched. LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD is still a damn fun movie!!! So what if it isn't DIE HARD...it's still one of the most exciting and outrageous films in a long time. A formula flick that delights, surprises and satisfies on a gut level. It promises a thrill-ride and it delivers. It does not promise intellectual insight (and delivers none), great political commentary (arguably there is a little bit snuck in) nor would it ever claim to be a Best Picture Oscar contender. And that's a GOOD thing. It is fun! And the kind of fun that only a movie can deliver. Willis is John McClain again...many years older. His wisecracks are a little dispirited (at least at the beginning), not because the movie is unoriginal...but because McClain is a little burnt out himself. We first see him spying on his teenage daughter to make sure the guy she's making out with is okay. It's a funny situation, but it's a little sad too. Here's this guy who has basically saved thousands of people from obliteration...and he still can't get his personal life together. He is quickly thrust into saving the life of a computer nerd (Justin Long), and wouldn't you know it...this is no ordinary case. This is another world-shaking, cataclysmic terrorist event in the making...and only McClain can save the day! Yep, you just want to roll your eyes...but 99% of you just smiles, kicks back and relaxes. You know you're in good hands. Willis really delivers. He knows how to play this part with his eyes closed...but the great thing is, he doesn't coast. (He has coasted in the past...but to his credit, Willis is one of the most physically committed actors around...he seldom just phones in his work.) And he is well-matched with Justin Long. Talk about an odd-couple! Naturally, as the movie progresses, and Willis saves Long's life for about the 100th time, Long grows to respect this artifact of a by-gone era. And Willis grows fond of this nerdy kid. Nothing earth-shattering there...but their by-play is so well-done that it feels, if not fresh, at least well-thought out. Maggie Q is in the Alexander Gudonov role...you know, the henchman to the main bad guy...the one who almost never talks but can sure kick some serious butt. She is extremely physically in her role, and she and Willis have a brutal and brilliantly stage (and super exciting) fight scene. This alone almost makes the entire movie worth seeing. It's one of the best fight scenes in a long time. Outrageously unlikely...but only made more enjoyable for that fact. Speaking of bad guys...Timothy Olyphant plays the master criminal, and it's an odd casting choice. He's supposed to be one of these mild-mannered, soft-spoken but oh-so-dangerous psychos. Sadly, he mostly comes across as mild-mannered and maybe a little peeved. The plan he's executing is a lot of fun (I won't spoil it...but suffice it to say that he wants the world to go REALLY low-tech), and the details of it are enjoyable to follow...but Olyphant is only really weak link in the acting chain here. The stunts in this movie are among the most jaw-dropping I've ever seen. Apparently, the more ridiculous the better...and again, it's that sense of glee, that sense that the filmmakers know perfectly well that what they've constructed is entirely without credibility...that makes it WORK! I've never laughed more at stunt work...but in a good way. I was almost like a little kid, ready to just clap my hands and stamp my feet in delight. LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD is a totally "big-studio, money-grabbing, escapist summer movie." But it shows that sometimes, that kind of film, well-done, is exactly what the doctor ordered. If you enjoyed DIE HARD...you should love this film too. It doesn't reinvent the wheel...but it sure makes the biggest, loudest, most awesome wheel you've seen in a long time!!

With the Die Hard movies, you really can't think too hard on them. All aboard the fun train, leave logic at the station. That said, this installment is more of the same. John McClane punches and shoots bad guys. Shoots off tough guy one liners and threats. Survives things normal humans can't. All unrealistic, but that's what we are here for. Gunfights, car chases, things blow up. This time, he's dragging around a confused and mostly terrified young hacker as he tries to stop bad guy hackers. We're just here for the fun and the action, and this movie delivers. It's not as good as the 1st one, sequels so rarely are, but it is one of the better sequels. To me, the contrast of McClane's unrealistic survival abilities and cool headedness in comparison with the much more realistic reactions of our young hacker, Matt Farrell, played with some humor by Justin Long, is a bit of a wink to the audience. Yes, this is over the top, but you love it anyway. The main bad guy, Thomas Gabriel, played by Timothy Olyphant, is fun to watch, even if he comes across as a bit of a moustache-twirler. The introduction of McClane's daughter Lucy gives us more McClane, just in a female form now. Fun, fun, fun. Story isn't a complete trainwreck, touching on the evils of technology. But it doesn't get in the way of what we are here for, and that is to see McClane run his mouth and kick butt.
