You can wear just one. Each earpiece has full controls. Unless you have the volume really loud, you can hear what is going on around you. I run with both earpieces.

If you want the ture wireless workout earbuds with IPX7 waterproof and touch control on volume and music. I think this one called GGMM T1 is better and only for $59.99.
