Raiders of the Lost Ark 4K UHD

Harrison Ford is on tremendous form as the university professor by day and global explorer, nazi ass kicker, artefact discoverer and ladies man in his spare time. Indiana Jones is approached by government officials who have heard about his abilities to obtain rare artefacts. They tell him that they have intercepted a nazi communication that spells out plans to discover the lost ark of the covenant. A religious tomb that holds the Ten Commandments and the power of God. They ask Dr Jones to get to it before the nazis as an army that carries the ark could rule the world. Jones begins his search in Nepal where he finds ex girlfriend Marion who is the daughter of indianas mentor. Marion has a necklace that has a pendant that shows markings to the burial place of the ark. It also is revealed that it fits onto the staff of wrath and will reveal the exact location. Unfortunately, Indiana has been followed by nazi agents and a fight ensues for the piece. Indy and Marion escape with the headpiece and move onto the Middle East where Marion is kidnapped by the nazis and Indiana locates the ark. A back and forth ensues between Indy and the nazis and the most incredible action scenes ensue. There is horse riding, car chases, punch ups, sword fights, explosions, booby traps and that's not to mention the snakes. The movie stretches over land sea and air to the conclusion on an island where the nazis will test the power of the ark. Tied up and frightened Indy and Marion must watch as the Germans open the ark and get more than they bargained for. This is the best of the Indiana Jones movies. It is a non stop ride of suspense, action and humour. The mythology is fantastic and there are great performances from Denholm Elliott, Karen Allen and John Rhys Davis. The villains are genuinely creepy and the challenges seem impossible. Harrison Ford put himself on the map in this movie as a true legend. A brilliant and inspired performance. He was not the first choice for the role, but it's impossible to imagine anyone else in this role. He really made it his own. My favourite movie. It never gets boring.

Films as one gets older generally become less important, especially today when most are either utter pants and all of the others are uniformly excellent. In other words today, it's much harder to have a film that captures the imagination of everyone by being unique and wonderous. When I was a child, this was not the case. Most films that had special effects were not very good and the TV even worse. Then came Star Wars that step changed the sci-fi movie genre and left me awe struck. Not that long afterwards, came Raiders. And for me this was the movie of my childhood. I went to see the film with a friend not knowing anything about it and actually intending going to see a different film. That film was not available (oh how the youth of today have it easy) so I plumped to see this one. And it was everything that my imagination was capable of imagining. I loved, mystery stories and books like Biggles and this film played every aspect of those genres perfectly. It was - and is - the greatest adventure film ever made. This download is of course a perfect rendition of the original so no rubbishy VHS nonsense. It isn't of course 4K hi def but that does not matter. It has the charm of a film that was in itself a love letter to early 1930's adventure films. From the very first seconds there is a magic about this film that cannot be ignored. It captivates and excites from the off helped of course by a music score that in itself could sell the movie. As a small boy I was tempted to run around the room clutching my parts when the opening du du du-du lines kicked in. I still could., although it would lack a certain amount of charm at fifty three and probably end up with me being arrested. Bottom line is that this is a once in a lifetime film. A magical experience that has lost non of it's charm, wonder and outright excitement forty years on.

The first Indiana Jones feature is the perfect distillation of all those classic 1930s to the 1950s adventures such as The African Queen and King Solomon's Mines, featuring Harrison Ford, one of the most charismatic film stars of the time. Set piece leads into set piece, but it all flows so smoothly, it doesn't feel contrived or lopsided. The supporting cast all seem iconic and the characters have been subsequently imitated by dozens of lesser movies. Another strength is that analogue stunts were favoured over greenscreen and CGI. Spielberg somehow manages to bring new life to a staid action format; the giant rolling boulder, a spy monkey, torture instruments that are actually coat hangers...nearly every scene contains innovative ideas in a way that hasn't really been seen since. The special FX do look a bit dated now, and the franchise dropped the ball a bit as the sequels made questionable choices - Sean Connery as Jones Sr, a wise cracking kid sidekick, being launched a mile inside a freezer by a nuclear explosion and surviving...but this film still remains an irrefutable classic.

loved this as a kid, but I now realise how little attention to detail Steven Spielberg had. He makes a lot of obvious mistakes. My children are 7 year old and 9 year old basically took it a part. i.e. the scene where he gets in a magic box on a train. When the antagonist opens the box, its empty and Mr Jones is running outside. As my kids pointed out, the box is not actually magic its a trick and if there is a hole in the bottom of the train, directly under the wheels. Normally old indie would be dead, I got this for a large part of the ending too.However overall it was fun and they did like it. But they had the same issues with back to the future. I think my generation was less cynical.

Great to watch again I grew up with these movies like so many.

A GOOD FILM

Endlich gibt es auch die Originalen filme einzeln auf Blu ray. um schonmal eines vorweg zu sagen, alle 3 teile sind ihren kauf wert und haben vorher nie besser ausgesehen. Zum Film: Der Film ist spitze und zurecht Kult. hier stimmt fast alles. Die Schausspieler, Der Soundtrack, Die Story, Die actionscenen die wirklich gut gemacht sind und das ganze abenteuer feeling. 5 Sterne. Zum Bild: Das Bild ist gut aber nicht perfekt. oft, vorallem in der ersten hälfte, wirkt das bild oft etwas unscharf und es gibt krisseliges bild(meist in Dunklen stellen). aber größtenteils, vorallem bei scenen in der Wüste ist das bild Wunderschön, sehr scharf, die farben sind kräftig und der Kontrast auch. trotz der schwächen finde ich das Bild sehr gelungen, besser hat der Film aufjedenfall noch nicht ausgesehen, besser wird es wohl auch nie aussehen. 3,5 Sterne für's Bild. Zum Sound: Ersteinmal würde ich jedem empfehlen die Originale Deutsche Tonspur zu benutzen, die stimmen dort sind alle passend gewählt.Die Soundqualität ist dort zwar nicht so gut wie in der neu aufgenommenen Synchro oder dem Englischen Original, dennoch sehr gut. Die neue Synchro ist natürlich nicht der Hammer. ein junger indiana jones mit der stimme eines alten Indys passt nicht zum Bild.viele neue stimmen sind zwar ganz gut gewählt aber die stimme von bellosch...ich meine belloq^^ ist grausaaaam schlecht. dafür ist dort der 5,1 Surrround Sound sehr gut gelungen.ich würde dennoch entweder das Englische Oirginal oder die Originale Deutsche fassung wählen. Original Englisch: 5 Sterne Original Deutsch : 4 Sterne Neue Synchro : 3 Sterne Extras: ausser ein paar trailer zum film gibt es leider nichts.schade, dabei hätte ich gerne das making of gesehen... 0,5 Sterne. Fazit: wegen fehlender extras müsste ich der Blu ray eigentlich einen Stern abziehen...aber ich bringe es einfach nicht über mein Abenteuerherz..^^

Fabulous action movie

Story (4) Im Unterschied zum englischen Original, lässt der deutsche Titel den Zuschauer im Dunkeln, um was es hier eigentlich geht. Wir schreiben das Jahr 1936. Der amerikanische Archäologieprofessor Henry Jones (gennant Indiana Jones) wird vom US-Geheimdienst engagiert, um in Ägypten die Nazis daran zu hindern, die sagenumwobene Bundeslade zu finden. Jones soll verhindern, dass die Nationalsozialisten in deren Besitz gelangen, da man befürchtet, dass Hitlers Armee unbesiegbar würde, sollte sie in den Besitz dieser Lade gelangen. Indiana Jones gelingt es die Bundeslade zu finden, er verliert sie aber gleich darauf wieder an die Nazis. Eine wilde Jagd und viele Abenteuer später gelingt es Jones mit Unterstützung von Marion Ravenwood und seinem Freund Sallah, den Nazis die Bundeslade wieder abzujagen... Vorneweg gilt es festzustellen, dass man in der Lage sein muss, seine linke Hirnhälfte weitestgehend auszublenden, um diesen Film geniessen zu können. Diesem ersten Teil der Indiana-Jones Tetralogie ist, was die Story anbelangt, mit Logik und tieferliegendem Sinn kaum beizukommen. Gelingt einem dies aber, hat man vergnügliche, spannende und sehr actiongeladene zwei Filmstunden vor sich. Ursprünglich hätte eigentlich Tom Selleck die Rolle des Indiana Jones spielen sollen, er war aber vertraglich bereits an die damals anlaufende Magnum-Serie gebunden. Harrison Ford macht seine Sache aber ausgezeichnet und spielt, sofern es die hanebüchene Story zulässt, glaubhaft und mit dem nötigen Schalk. Überhaupt wird mit viel Ironie und schwarzem Humor versucht, die an sich ernsthafte Geschichte etwas zu brechen, und entstanden ist so etwas wie eine wilde Mischung aus James Bond und Tim und Struppi. Die gebotenen Action-Szenen sind imposant und eindrücklich umgesetzt. Dem Zuschauer wird kaum eine Minute zum Durchschnaufen gegönnt, da die ganze Dramaturgie vollständig auf Rasanz und äussere Ereignisse getrimmt ist. Reflexion und Analyse ist Indiana Jones Ding nicht... Bild (4) Das Bildseitenverhältnis liegt in 2.35:1 ( 21:9 CinemaScope ) vor. Es ist deutlich zu sehen, dass man es hier mit einer neuen Bildabtastung zu tun hat. Der Schärfewert, vor allem bei Close-Ups ist sehr gut ausgefallen. Bei Totalen wird das Bild dann allerdings merklich grieseliger, zum Teil sogar recht unscharf. Die Kontraste sind gut, bei dunklen Szenen werden allerdings zuweilen Bildinhalte verschluckt. Die Farben sind gut und kräftig, und auch der Schwarzwert ist sehr gut ausgefallen. Alles in allem hinterlässt diese Blu-ray-Umsetzug einen sehr guten Eindruck, und mit den vereinzelten unscharfen Sequenzen lässt sich leben. Ton (3) Das Tonformat liegt zum einen als original Kinoversion in Stereo DD 2.0, wie auch als Neusynchronisation in Dolby Digital 5.1 vor. Wie so oft muss man als deutschsprachiger Zuschauer beim Ton Abstriche machen. Die Surroundabmischung ist recht dezent ausgefallen und lässt vor allem Dynamik und Räumlichkeit vermissen. Der Film findet hauptsächlich auf den Frontkanälen statt. Allerdings sind die Dialoge jederzeit gut zu verstehen. Die Tonumsetzung ist Durchschnitt und bietet kaum Vorteile zur DVD-Version. Extras (3) Interessieren mich nicht. Es gibt ein WendeCover! Fazit: Vergnügliches Popcorn-Kino für Freunde des gepflegten Action- und Abenteuer-Kinos. Die HD-Umsetzung ist beim Bild sehr gut ausgefallen, beim Ton muss man Abstriche machen.
