FM16D-TC Electric 8 Ton Hydraulic Log Splitter

After a month of constant use this splitter never missed a beat. Powerful, simple to use and reasonably quick it should be any shortlist for this class of splitter.

I am very happy with this machine. I had a large Sycamore and a massive Eucalyptus come down in the recent UK storms. It handled the Sycamore no problem, brilliant. Though, Eucalyptus is another matter all together, it does not want to split, log splitting axes just bounce off, but this machine handled 75% of it, the rest, the massive trunk, and very large branch rounds, I had to chainsaw into firewood. My only complaint about the machine is that you have to kneel to use it, that becomes very uncomfortable very fast. So I gathered up some scrap metal and 4 wheels and made something that looks somewhat like the trolley Forest Master sell, which I did not buy because 2 of its wheels are small castors which I suspect will be fine on concrete, but very difficult to pull over rough ground. Oh, and I made mine with a steering mechanism. If you are going to use this a lot, invest in the FM16TW with wheels and castors, or better still, make your own with 4 wheels, and steering.

My only experience of a log splitter was a tractor PTO driven machine that had massive power. So I didn't think a single phase AC motor driven machine would have the potential to split logs. How wrong I was as this machine has amazing splitting force and nothing much beats it. There are two aspects of the machine that in my opinion would enhance its performance and I would then give it 5 stars 1. The load wheels deed the option of pneumatic for damp ground or gravel drives as this machine is very heavy to move 2. The guide rails would benefit from an additional mid hole fixing as downward force cannot be avoided if the log inclines due to twisted grain. The after sales support is second to none, would definitely recommend this machine. Peter Weston

This is a tree eating machine and has split everything I have shown it so far, including large rounds of oak, yew and poplar. It is very satisfying to use, even all day when splitting multiple tonnes of material. I just use the machine with the included second wedge and it has never got stuck, it just keeps pushing and cleaving the round even with a long piece of fibrous, knotty wood. Even the most 'gnarly' intersections can be reduced although in less predictable ways. The included adjustable 'stop' allows the stroke to be reduced for shorter logs which is a real time and electricity saver. This machine is much heavier duty than smaller models so the flip-side to its extreme splitting abilities is that it is really heavy and difficult to move, even on its wheels. Make sure you have a helper or use a heavy duty trolley to haul it about. It is best placed at waist height to avoid stooping and the two-handed operation makes it almost impossible to get your hands in the danger zone. Just a couple of safety tips: NEVER put your hands into the gap of a partially split log to lift it off, it can close up and injure your fingers. Very large diameter logs tend to split very suddenly and can fly apart. Be prepared for heavy lumps to be flying about or falling to the ground near your adequately protected feet. I believe this machine is designed and made in the UK which is a welcome bonus.

This is a monster machine, splits hardwood like butter. Worth every penny

My husband was very impressed with this splitter as he had never used an electric one previously but only an auger working off the PTO of a tractor. He said that it had great power and it was easy to use and to split wood. After he assembled it, he spent the next few weeks splitting the firewood to keep our fires burning for another winter. He would recommend this highly.

When I think of the hours I've spent with an axe & a chopping block, that shock reverberating through you when you hit a log that won't split, the blistered palms & bruised shins, I wish I'd had one of these years ago. So far it's split everything I've given it, large well-seasoned rounds of ash, sycamore, elm & sweet chestnut, many with gnarly grain due to forks, knots & branch stubs. As for green wood, regardless of size or complexity it goes through the rounds like butter. I've never had such a well stocked log shed!

Der Versand Der Versand war ein wenig abenteuerlich. Es gab eine Zeitraum-Angabe und keinen Liefertermin, eine Nachverfolgung war nur grob möglich. Das Gerät ist schwer, also so richtig schwer - ohne Anbauteile rund 80kg. Also kam es auf Palette über FedEx und stand samt Fahrer ohne Ankündigung vor der Tür. Hier kann man sicherlich noch was verbessern. Das Gerät. Forest Master FM16D (Ich vergleiche hier nur meinen alten 230V 4to Spalter gegen den neuen 230V Spalter, vielleicht gibt es 400V Spalter oder Benzin-Spalter, die das auch können, aber Äpfel mit Äpfeln vergleichen....) Ich habe seit Jahren eine 4to Spalter von Atika. Arbeitet solide, hat wenig, aber meistens ausreichend Spaltkraft, ist aber furchtbar langsam und der Spaltabstand war fest vorgegeben und musste bei jedem Stück Holz zurückgelegt werden. Es ging, aber es ging langsam und ich kam öfter an Grenzen bei störrischem Holz. Dieses Gerät hat gegenüber den meisten Spaltern vier Vorteile, die absolut sinnvoll sind und die ich nicht wieder missen möchte: 1. Der Spalthub ist einstellbar, so dass lange und zeitraubende Wege der Vergangenheit angehören. TOP! 2. Es gibt zwei Geschwindigkeiten. Weiches Gehölz kann man schnell spalten, also schneller Hub mit wenig Energie, hartes Holz braucht mehr Energie. Also langsamer mit mehr Kraft. Dieses Gerät ermöglicht genau dieses und spart auch dadurch Zeit! TOP! 3. Es bauen sich sagenhafte 8to Spaltdruck auf. Da ist dann genau der Ruck dabei, der mir bislang oft gefehlt hat. Spalten beim ersten und nicht fünften Anlauf oder womöglich gar nicht.... TOP 4. Doppelter Spaltkeil. Wer kennt sie nicht die Frage: Wie rum lege ich das Stück ein. Häufig lässt sich ein Stamm von einer Seite etwas besser aufspalten, als von der anderen. V.a. Stücke mit Astverzweigungen. Diese Frage stellt sich nicht mehr. Der Stamm gibt jetzt einfach auf der schwächeren Seite nach. Ein Umdrehen und erneutes Probieren entfällt. Warum ist auf die Idee nicht schon jemand vorher gekommen? TOP! Der Aufbau Denkbar einfach. Es fehlte zwar die Anleitung, aber Räder einstecken und sichern, Tragegriff anschrauben und Feststellschraube eindrehen..... fertig. Das klappte auch so. Kundendienst Ja, auch den habe ich kennengelernt. Nach dem Zusammenbau war eine Schraube mit Mutter übrig. Die war anders, also die verbauten Teile für Griff und Räder, also Kundendienst kontaktiert. Tipp: Gleich über die Webseite des Herstellers, geht schneller! Sehr freundlich, sehr schnell und sogar an einem Sonntag gab es eine Antwort. Wobei ich immer mehr der Meinung bin, dass der Sonntag Sonntag sein sollte und nicht der Arbeit dient! Fazit Das Gerät macht einen solideren Eindruck, als mein alter Spalter. Die Vorteile sind beschrieben und ich erwarte hier eine sehr hohe Lebensdauer. Der alte Spalter hat es schon auf 15 Jahre gebracht und geht immer noch.... aber der hier geht besser ;-)

Je suis bluffé ! Fend sans problème des billots de chêne d’environ 70cm de diamètre. Incroyable pour une si petite machine. Rien a redire, pour moi c’est un 10/10 ! Vraiment ravi de cet achat.

Très Puissant et robuste. Perfectible cependant. L'action manuelle sur le levier de gauche face à l'outil entraine inévitablement un contact entre la face externe du pouce et le bâti en acier. Un scalpe superficiel mais redondant de la peau apparait. Avec un gant, (main gauche donc) l'espace entre le levier et le montant métallique ne permet pas de saisir fermement ledit levier qui échappe ; L'embout plastique du levier n'est pas fixé, il se dévisse et tombe... ; le bouton poussoir que vous devrez tenir enfoncé avec votre index (main droite) en permanence pour que le moteur tourne n'est vraiment pas pratique, surtout avec des gants. Gare aux crampes, douleurs, au bout de 20 minutes d'exercice ! Un simple contacteur marche arrêt ferait l'affaire. Du reste les à-coups générés au moteur (marche / arrêt permanents) dus à ce type de conception doivent nuire à la longévité du moteur / condensateur... ; ensuite si le double coin est génial pour les gros diamètres il faudrait fournir la possibilité d'utiliser un poussoir plat pour les bois faciles à fendre. Cela permettrait l'utilisation pour des petites buches un peu plus longues...car l'espace entre les deux "pointes" est relativement étroit. Je remarque aussi une sorte de "beug" qui nécessite l'arrêt afin que l'huile hydraulique ait le temps de redescendre... ? Défaut de conception du purgeur qui reste tres exposé au cisaillement par le mouvement linéaire des buches.Enfin le frein mobile de retour censé permettre de couper de petites longueurs sans que le chariot revienne à zéro est une vue de l'esprit. Inutilisable, il faudrait une troisième main ! De plus, Si on y prend garde, il se desserre et tombe dans les débris de bois. En conclusion, je dirais que pour le prix, les concepteurs ont privilégié la puissance et la solidité au détriment de défauts flagrants. Ceci dit, utilisateur amateur de fendeurs depuis 40 ans, je conseillerai ce produit car ses défauts, une fois corriges (facile) il reste un outil terriblement efficace. Je le recommande.
