My Brain is a Race Car: A children's guide to a neuro-divergent brain Review: Race cars are hard to control - I love the analogy, comparing an ADHD brain to a race car. Fast cars have advantages and disadvantages and this book is a cute way to describe it. The pictures look great and it is easy to read. I would recommend to any parent trying to explain ADHD to their child. Review: Sweet, fun, relatable - This book explains things in a way that kids understand and adults can also enjoy and appreciate. It flows well and is an easy read. It is fun and down-to-earth without being cheesy.

Highly recommend for anyone with busy kids
My 8yr old son was recently diagnosed with adhd. I wanted a book that could explain how fast his mind goes compared to other kids. This book has great examples and techniques that you could use for your child. My son particularly likes his calming corner and loved the other ideas within the book. We had a great time reading and learning how different and special his mind is. Highly recommend

Great idea, OK execution.
Overall, I like the concept of this book, but I wanted to love it even more, for my kids sake. My 8YO daughter was recently diagnosed with ADHD and she did like the concept of having a race car brain. She identified with it. But at eight years old, and being a very good reader, even she had trouble with the wording of some of the sentences in this book. It’s not a very intuitive read, especially for ND kids. Next, the pages are so thin that you can see through to the picture printed from the page behind it. I’m sharing a a photo of one of the pages to demonstrate. Also, our book inexplicably came with the last four pages blank, so we did not get the benefit of the positive aspects of this type of brain at the end of the book.I will be sending it back. I don’t fault the author for that, but the publisher or a cheap Amazon supplier. I strongly recommend that the author choose a more reputable printer. I’ll be sourcing from a local bookstore next time.

Helpful and relatable for kids
My newly diagnosed 4th grader really liked this book. The visual of the race car and kid friendly terms helped my kid verbalize his experiences. Hope to find more books like this!

Cute and pretty illustrations
I love how this analogy perfectly depicts how the adhd brain works in children. My son STILL refers to this analogy all the time. Very impactful.

My Brain Is a Race Car is a great book to read with kids. It’s super easy to understand, fun, and explains neurodivergent traits in a really kid-friendly way. I’d highly recommend it for helping children better understand their neurodivergent friends or classmates. It’s a great conversation starter and a wonderful way to build empathy from a young age.

I actually got emotive reading this book to my son. I mean, I was diagnosed with ADHD only recently, at 42. This book talked to my inner child, that one who has always been scolded for being distracted, agitated, forgetful and everything. It says that it's ok to be you, you just need a bit of extra help to get through your day. Thank you, Nell, from bottom of my heart. This book really means a lot to me.

Fantastic book for ADHD was able to help our son understand what is happening more to him. It also helped us as parents understand more too. Its very relatable for our son and makes him feel like he is special and not different in a bad way.

EXCELLENT! We have a little one with ADHD and this book helped us explain to her in a very easy and positive way what does it mean. She was able to relate to the book and often we refer back to some sentences to try and help supporting her out. This is definitely a book for any kid’s personal library!
