Simplicity Sewing Pattern 1318: Misses' Kimono Jackets, Size A

I found version D of this pattern very challenging. I'm not a beginner, though I haven't done a lot of sewing over the years, and perhaps should have realised that this pattern involves sewing 3D curves: not easy. View D requires a very long band to be attached right round the edge of the jacket. Despite my best attempts to measure accurately and get all the seams matched up, I couldn't quite make the band fit the jacket, which is perhaps inevitable once seams have been snipped for ease, meaning a certain amount of stretch and distortion. I found the instructions for creating and attaching the band very difficult to understand, and it took me a while to work out how to do it - it took me several time-consuming attempts. Finally, being unlined, and after my attempts to make adjustments, the inside of the jacket looks like a dog's dinner. Perhaps the other three versions are easier...?

It is a gorgeous pattern and I enjoyed it till I got to the back and facing - it simply did not fit and I really struggled. All the other parts worked really well. Would not recommend for a beginner. But not giving up - have put it aside for now, but will come back to me once I have a bit more experience. I have looked on the internet and there are people who say it is wonderful, but also lots who strugged and said that there might be a misprint with the back facing. Am not enough of an expert to judge that ... all I can say is I could not finish the kimono, which was beginning to take shape and looked lovely. If you are experienced, this might be the pattern for you. But if you are a beginner, tread carefully.
