Blind automation
After using the SwitchBot Blind Tilt Curtain Rod model for several weeks, I can confidently say it’s one of the simplest ways to turn standard blinds into smart, automated ones, without replacing your existing setup. Setup and Installation Installation was refreshingly easy. The device clips onto the blind’s tilt rod and connects to the SwitchBot app within minutes. The in-app calibration walks you through open and close positions, and it worked flawlessly on the first try. For people who want to automate without tools or rewiring, this is a major plus. Smart Control and Integration The SwitchBot ecosystem has grown nicely. With the Hub Mini. Voice commands like “Alexa, open the blinds” are surprisingly satisfying and reliable. You can also create schedules, group multiple blinds, or trigger actions based on time, temperature, or sunlight. Performance The motor is quiet and smooth, though not completely silent. It moves at a steady pace that feels deliberate and controlled ideal for a bedroom or office. Battery life is solid; even with daily open/close routines, you can expect several months of use per charge. Add the optional SwitchBot Solar Panel, and you may never need to plug it in again. App and Automation The SwitchBot app is straightforward, with clean automation options. One of my favorite features is the sunrise/sunset automation, which adjusts automatically with seasonal changes. If you’re already using other SwitchBot devices (like the Thermometer or Motion Sensor), you can create smart routines that respond to environmental conditions.

Clever design made installation fairly easy and product performs great!
Took me about 45 minutes to install since I went step by step very carefully so as not to mess up. If I purchase additional Blind Tilts the installation will probably take only 10 minutes. The product performs exactly as described. It changes the blind angles fairly slowly but speed really isn't needed anyway and slower movement will hopefully translate to longer trouble free lifespan. Initially I hooked up the supplied solar panel but the Blind Tilt didn't recognize it. I did some research and theorized that the Blind Tilt firmware was at version 1.2 while the latest version 2.0 was needed to support the solar panel and associated light sensor. I could not find anyway to upgrade the firmware so I submitted a support request to Wonderlabs. The very next morning I discovered that there was a firmware upgrade awaiting installation into my Blind Tilt. I went through the upgrade and now the solar panel is charging the unit (when there's bright enough sunlight). Overall the Blind Tilt is working great! Discovering that the firmware was out of date was disappointing but Wonderlabs took care of that literally overnight. I've set the unit up to automatically open every morning and close every evening so I'll see over the next few weeks if it performs reliably and also if the solar panel keeps the unit charged. I've added the Alexa integration and that also works great. I've mounted it to a six foot wide by five foot high window blind that is about four years old. The Blind Tilt gear motor did not seem to be "laboring" at all when it went from down close to up close, so I think it could handle even larger blinds if it needed to. A note about the process of mounting the solar panel to your window via the self adhesive pad. I cleaned the glass with the supplied alcohol wipe then peeled the backing off of the self adhesive strip and began to position the panel towards the top of the window. I inadvertently slightly touched the pad to the glass while moving the panel into position and it stuck instantly and I couldn't pull it back off (without risking damage) so the solar panel is mounted at an angle a few inches from where I panned to place it. Oh well!!! :) So use some extra care when you reach this step. If it survives my "trial" period I will probably purchase several more since I have the same Horizontal Blinds on every window in my house! It's appears to be a well designed, sturdy product that is providing a lot for its relatively low price. I will update if things change! May 26,2025 update: I ended up buying seven more these to automate the four blinds in my livingroom and three blinds in my bedroom. Installation went great on all of them and they all work fine. The only issue I’ve run across is with the Alexa integration. I don’t know if my blinds are unique but when they are “closed up” they block light much better than when they are “closed down”. Unfortunately, Alexa can open or close them just fine with voice commands but they always “close down” which means I have to go into the SwitchBot app and command a “close up” or else live with the light leaks!

Works great in Florida.
I absolutely love this. Just wish the price was closer to $30. My wrist hates the twisting motion to open my blinds. Got one of the to work on a north facing window in Florida. No issues with getting enough sunlight to full charge using the solar panel. Easy to install. Needed a few minutes to get everything just right. It synced up to its own app just fine but couldn't get it to sync to Alexa. Not an issue since I set it to auto open at sunrise and close at sunset. I can control it via the app. After about 5 months of use. Open and closing every day I realized it needed to be recalibrated to close better. Not an issue and easy to do. Started with one would like 5 more. And wish they had options for the pull string blind tilts. This has allowed me to open my house and let sunlight in regularly without hurting my wrist, and not having to climb over furniture to do it either. Highly recommend. Looking forward to getting a few more things like the curtain open and closers.

Very good design, less noise than similar motor ideas, very good and stable solar charging and good connectivity to wifi and Google home app

This is my first switchbot device and I'm impressed. They have acknowledged home assistant and are certifying their devices for it, which is great. Initially I was reluctant to get this because it's Bluetooth and I wanted something to hook into my expansive ZigBee network, but I couldn't find anything else so I got this and a small esp32 device to use as a Bluetooth proxy for home assistant. Everything connected up fine in home assistant, but I did find it difficult to fit the device to my blinds. First I had to change from a pull cord to a wand, which was quite easy in the end. The instructions were good and I quickly realised that because I have two blinds perpendicular to each other that it was going to be a tight fit. The device can be fitted to the left or the right of the wand and I had to put mine on the right and used the alternative bracket due to some trim at the top of my blinds. Lastly I had to trim a small piece from the bracket due to the proximity of the other blind. So far it's been solid with no disconnects or mechanical issues. The battery life seems great and I haven't bothered with the solar panel, I'll just hook it up to a power bank every couple of months.

I stumbled on this device during Cyber Monday. Installation was easy, works great, does the job, the solar panel is an excellent feature (no cables from an outlet). Only disadvantage is that you need an additional hub if you want to control it with Google Home. I might try to use Home Assistant with a Bluetooth dongle.
