Excellent product. I highly recommend.
Edited to explain to the complainants, why there are no plugs attached. I have copied the wording from the product information above - āNo plugs are supplied with this product: In the UK it is illegal for a manufacturer to supply an indoor use 3 pin plug with an outdoor product.ā All uk pond equipment suppliers have to abide by this legal requirement. This is my second purchase of the Blagden 5in1 3000. The previous one worked perfectly for over 5 years before giving up. My pond is in the sun and 1,500 litres. I have 5 goldfish over 10 inches, who gave me over 20 babies last year so the pond is now overstocked (they are all hiding under the Lilly pads). As you can see the pond is free of blanket weed and the water is clean and clear. I have added 2 of the 3 free Blagden pond pads that I found tucked inside the packaging- thank you, Iāve ordered more. This pump is very effective and efficient. Itās simple to put together and lift out for cleaning. Iām a 70 year old woman so I appreciate how easy this is to use and maintain. The price is very reasonable when compared to buying a separate filter box and pump which Iāve had in the past and this works just as well. Thereās the added bonus of no leaking hoses and jubilee clips to wrestle with either. Please forgive the ugly netting, we have a very determined Heron who lives on a nearby lake but he hasnāt taken any - yet!

We've had pond filters/pumps for years, and this one is the best yet. Genius idea.
We've had pond filters/pumps for years, and this one is the best yet. The traditional set-up is a pump, some hose to the UV, then into a tank with foam filters, bio media, and back into the water. This works the other way round sucking the water in through the top, through course foam, finer foam, very fine thin foam, bio media, UV and then the pump. All under the water, so it will never leak or pump the pond dry. Genius. Cleaning our old one was a real chore, and very messy. The pump always needed cleaning as it got wrapped in weed, sometimes the hose needed cleaning, the UV was of dubious use after as it was always mucky, and the foam was very messy to lift out and clean. Leave it too long, and it would overflow and the pond level would promptly drop. With this you can either have a fountain, and it comes with a variety of pipes and spouts, or you can add a hose to use a pond side ornamental object. I've stayed with the supplied fountain, which gives a really good 'running water' noise. The fountain outlet adjusts in every direction, so if like me your pond bottom isn't that flat, and the water level varies depending on how much it's rained, you can still get the fountain to spray straight up from the water level. The LED lights illuminate the fountain and are surprisingly effective. You can cover the sensor, so they don't have to be on if you don't want them. It's been running for a couple of months, and I waited to review it until I knew how it was working. The water is now crystal clear, which the other products very rarely achieved. It's really simple to clean. I leave the handle upright as it's in around 18 inches of water, and this makes it very easy to lift out to clean it. My pond volume is close to the maximum suggested, and has some large goldfish in it. The instructions suggest washing the filters in a bucket of pond water, but it's much easier to just hose them clean. (I leave the bio media alone unless it's really nasty.) As you lift it out of the pond, the main weight is the water in it, so I tip it so it goes back into the pond, and then lift it out nearly empty and much lighter. It's been really well thought out. Once the pump dropped off, and this was due to the fitting holding it to the main body unscrewing. I did have to take it completely to bits to re-fit that bit, but that was only 4 small screws and some time. I have been cleaning it weekly, but I'm probably contributing to that by using treatments for blanket weed and muck digestion, making it work quite hard. You know when it needs a clean, as the fountain gets smaller. There's also algae which needs cleaning off the lights and fountain head to keep them working well. Handy tip, use an upturned garden soil sieve to put the dirty foam on, and hose through it to clean them. Do it on the lawn, and it's free lawn food as well. It's possible to clean it all with only your hands getting wet - with care.

Almost excellent
Easy to assemble and use, although it took me the best part of an hour to figure out the fountain poles so it fitted my pond depth! š Itās lightweight even when filled with water, this results in it tipping over! Iāve managed to wedge it up against a very large stone to prevent it toppling over but it does seem rather daft that itās not stable in completely still water. Iāve chosen the bell fountain head for now. It gives off a nice trickle type sound but I think the āsprayā fountain heads give a better sound which is more tranquil so Iāll be changing it when Iām on my weekend off in a couple of weeks. Light doesnāt seem to work? Just as a side note:- this comes with 2 cables that needs wiring into a pond āsocketā and not 1. I thought Iād mention it as I hadnāt realised but luckily I had 2 sockets available.

Not working š.
Let's start from the beginning shall we. Purchased one of these in pond 3,000 approximately 18 months ago. Pump transformer failed replaced now working. UV failed approximately four weeks ago. Tripped my electrics out. Found to be the ballast unit had failed. Purchased a new one from Amazon and on opening and fitting a plug was found to be not working changed the bulb tested plug fuse not working. Amazon replaced it and the same no out put not working straight out of the box. At this point my fish was starting to suffer with cloudy water. So decided to buy a brand new in pond 3, 000 to get around this problem. On testing on arrival the UV was also found not to be working I have checked power supply fuses plugs output at the ball bend not working. All that I have mentioned have now been returned to Amazon for a full refund. Contacted Blagdon directly and was told just go back to the retailer in other words it's nothing to do with us. I have read other reviews about these products about not lasting more than a year including the pump units it just seems to be a quality control problem. omnote electrical engineer but I'm also not a complete idiot in doing rudimental checks and tests. I am now a loss of where to purchase a replacement UV clarifier to make sure it works and save my pond. I find this absolutely unbelievable that three brand new products from the same company straight out of the box are just found not to be working. The hassle I have had ordering receiving returning has been a complete stressful experience. I'm getting more stressed than the fish in my pond. OPPPPPS, UV ONLY WORKS WHEN INSERTED INTO THE BASKET. THERE IS A MAGNETIC SWITCH. SO WHEN YOU FIT YOUR PLUG AND TEST MAKE SURE THE UV IS REINSERTED IN ITS HOUSING. SILLY ME.

Excellent
This pump came as part of a raised pond kit from Blagdon. After 18 months keeping filthy goldfish very clean, the pump died. Bought a direct replacement as it is so easy to clean and adjust. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts, but 18 months is not bad at all for the price. Easy to set up. The handle is super helpful to lift it out as it is heavy with water init. Cleaning is very easy, as is changing the UV light which needs doing annually. Do keep up with maintenance, I am rather pleased to have a second set of sponges to swap. However, leave the media alone as thats where the essential bacteria live.

Brilliant Product
I don't tend to write product reviews but I feel this pump / filter warrants an exception. I've struggled for years to maintain a healthy pond and have used a lot of the green water treatments on the market to no avail. Until now, I've only had a pump in the pond and, whilst they help with aeration and water circulation, they don't do anything in terms of cleaning the water. I'd been toying with the idea of installing an external UV filter but was put off by all the pipework, additional power requirements and all the work I'd need to do to conceal the equipment. I've watched lots of YouTube videos and people are digging holes, building waterfalls and all manner of elaborate water features. This felt like a hell of a lot of work, so when I saw this product, I was excited but, given all the fails I'd had in the past, I was also slightly skeptical. I installed the Blagdon pump 2 weeks ago and the pond water had the appearance and texture of pea soup. As you can see from my before and after shots, the difference it's made is nothing short of remarkable! I've had to take the pump out a few times to clean the filters (which were thick with silt and grime), however, even after 1 week, it was clear that the pump was doing its job. Now, 2 weeks on, I'm now looking at a perfectly clear and healthy looking pond. I can't recommend this product highly enough!

Expensive to upkeep, be wary
The filter is good for a short period of time. I purchased this filter in September 2024 with high hopes it would keep my 1200ltr pond with fish clean and clear. It did its job at the start, fast forward to spring this year, had to do a full pond water change as the winter had just taken hold of the pond and the water was filthy. No problem, itās what I expected. Filter was easy to dissemble to clean thoroughly. Since doing this in April, the water has consistently been dirty and murky - no where near as clear as how the pump made it when we first got it. Decided to check the UV bulb, bulb not working. Again, no problem. Ordered a new bulb and fitted it (Blagdon brand to keep everything the same) and it didnāt work. The new bulb looked fine, I changed the fuse in the plug to no avail. It then started tripping the electrics so I suspect the entire UV unit has gone (and has been gone a while). I havenāt even had this pump 9 months and Iām already going to have to fork out for a new UV unit for it so not too happy. If this pump was much older, Iād be more understanding, but at almost 9 months old and Iām going to have to pay for a new UV unit? Wouldnāt buy again unless you want the expensive upkeep. Not great value for money. Overall, I have given this product 3 out of 5 stars as when it actually works, it is great. Itās easy to clean and not noisy in the slightest. The cables are long enough to have it at a safe distance from the waterās edge and it keeps the pond clear. However, the downside is that it requires a lot of maintenance that can be expensive and always the ābellā water feature can easily get blocked up and doesnāt look as shown in photos unless with a lot of maintenance.
