Topeak Smart D2 Digital Gauge

Bought this for checking my bike tyres pressure and although quite expensive, the other reviews online about it being good are correct. I now use this as my main gauge when setting my tubeless or tube tyre pressures. The digital display is easy to see, the continuous reading is great as you use the release button to reduce the pressure to what you need. Works across schrader and normal car tyre valves so covers my road and hybrid bike. At first it was fiddly to use and I found I let a lot of air out to begin with when taking a reading, but once you get used to holding it at the correct angle it just works and I now find it simple to use and more accurate than my track pump gauge. Generally now pump up higher than required pressure on track pump then use this and the release button to get the specific pressure I want. Excellent bit of kit and worth the hefty price tag. It also stows away nicely as its pretty small, so fits in my wheel bag when heading to an event.

This is a wonderful little tool for checking your tyre pressures, it's compact, easy to use and very accurate indeed. No problems fitting it to the valve or taking a reading and checking against another brand it seems accurate. If you want one and are looking for a good deal then this may be for you, its certainly good enough for me.

Pressure readings are consistent all the time - how accurate I am not too sure. It's very light and the plastic feels strong but I won't say it's high quality. Liked the twistable head although I didn't really needed it. Really liked the pressure release button which was the main selling point of this product - it's not common to have with digital pressure gauges. The transparent screen shield fell off after about 6 months of usage exposing the 7-segment LED display which was very disapointing especially for this price point. But this was easily stuck back on again with some superglue. Usually when I adjusting pressure on my tyres I first measure the pressure with the gauge, then pump up with a foot pump, then release pressure with gauge. I find that the auto power-off feature is way too quick! After I pump up tyre which takes about 10-20 seconds the gauge already is already turned off! Switching it back on again means I have to set the gauge to pressure release mode (continuous reading mode) again. This is the only thing I really dislike about the gauge.

Bought this to use with my road bike as I wasn't sure the gauge on my track pump was accurate. Item arrived very quickly, and was very nicely presented (as with all Topeak items). First thing I noticed was the excellent quality and weight of the item, which was a nice surprise given one reviewers a comment of it being cheap and plasticky? It is made of plastic, but is quite weighty and very good quality. The instructions cover various languages, but are easy enough to read, and the item itself is pretty straightforward to use. It adjusts between Schader and Presta valves with the flick of a button, and actually has an added bonus for me, the fact that I can use it on the car as well. The head rotates to suit whatever angle you take your pressure from. It also can be set to a desired pressure, so that if your pressures are too high, then with the touch of a button, you can let air out and it will beep when it reaches your desired pressure .... very clever!! As for making a good connection with the valve, I've found that as long as you centre your valve correctly on the head of the unit, it connects perfectly, with no loss of air. On release, you lose some air, but the same can be said of any pump/gauge, and Topeak quote this in the instructions. I would strongly recommend this item, it is actually far better than I was expecting!!

Topeak are known for their excellent quality products. This tyre gauge is regarded as the best by many - including people in the industry. It is great for use on Presta valves, but can also be used on Schrader valves (although I use a Halfords one for Schrader valves). The really useful function for cyclists is the ability to read the pressure gauge in real time (instead of a number that appears and sticks as in many other gauges). This function will alter the reading as you release the air pressure, which makes it very accurate and useful. Recommended for cyclists and others that want an accurate pressure gauge.

Easy to use on both Presta and Shrader valves as found on bikes and cars. Switching valve type is quick and seamless by simply sliding a lever. It can show you both the maximum pressure and real-time pressure by switching modes, so that you can remove the gauge and check the pressure, or keep it on and release air at the push of a button until the pressure is right. Compared to an electric car tire pump that I have, it shows essentially the same reading. It's small and lightweight for easy carrying. While a bit on the pricey side, if you want a reliable, compact, does-it-all device, or you simply check your pressure often, then it's well worth it.

This is the second one I have bought. Not the cheapest pressure gauge but accurate and deals with the two most common valve types meaning it covers my car, motorcycle and pedal cycles. The only reason I bought this second unit is I have mislaid my original. However it’s so good I didn’t want to be without it. If I find the original I will just keep it in my bike kit and the new one by my pump in the shed.

This the second one of these gauges I’ve purchased within the last year. First one lasted 10 months before leaking air through the unit and not holding pressure. This one I’ve just purchased as a replacement did exactly the same out of the box! I’ll be looking for a different brand as there’s obviously a quality control issue!
