Apera Instruments TDS20 Value TDS Meter, Pocket Tester, Waterproof, ±1% Accuracy, ±0.5˚C Temperature Sensor, Complete Kit

I have used this meter for 3 years so I can offer a reasoned assessment. The kit is thoughfully designed. The meter is reliable and accurate. It is waterproof. The default reading is in microsiemens, which I much prefer to ppm, but the the meter can convert and present the reading in ppm if required. I would suggest checking the accuracy immediately using the provided 1413 microsiemens calibration fluid. Then I would suggest testing some distilled water - the reading should zero. Over time the meter will need to be recalibrated but this is a simple procedure using the 1413 calibration fluid. I own several professional conductivity meters made by WTW, Hanna and such like but they are stored in quite bulky professional cases and are equipped with separate electrodes whereas this meter is easy to access and to use being all of one piece and this is sometimes very handy. The meter can be slipped into pocket which the others cannot so it's convenient in many situations. I've used this one a fair bit in my work. The accuracy compares favourably with other meters which are many times more expensive. A useful and reliable tool, this is not a toy such as the many sub-£15 TDS meters one finds on sale. I don't think it would be suitable for professional use - the screen is rather small, for example. But it is fine as a backup device to use for quick checks. I would recommend this device to anyone looking for a reliable conductivity meter without investing in expensive professional equipment.

A very well made and accurate TDS meter, i have both this and their PH meter in this range. Ignore every other chinese PoS meter on this site and just pay a little more and get a good accurate German meter.

Just to be clear straight from the off. This is a review of the Apera Instruments AI213 TDS meter. That's total dissolved solids. It does also show water temperature but this is NOT a pH meter, nor is it an EC meter (electrical conductivity - technically a TDS meter uses EC measurement to give a TDS result). For most applications you're probably going to want at least a separate pH meter. This comes in a well presented kit form, which includes the two calibration fluids required to calibrate the tester. Roughly speaking you're looking at a case about the size of an old Betamax tape but an inch and a half thick. Probably not the most useful size comparison, so 160x190mm. Instructions are included to set-up the meter, which requires several steps and both calibration solutions but it's actually pretty straight forward. There's a big difference between the total dissolved solids for hydroponics vs checking your pool water but there are several different ranges to accommodate this. Also, I don't have a pool so that solved that dilemma. I've been using a cheap TDS meter for my hydroponic solutions up til now and honestly I gave up on it as the results just didn't feel accurate and repeatable from one test to the next. I'm feeling a LOT more confident in the consistency of the results. On the other hand it's about five times the price of those other meters.

When I received the product it was quite easy to use, measurements seemed accurate to my inline professional meter. After 4 weeks blank screen of death, batteries supplied by the manufacturer had leaked and damaged the internals, no joy after replacing batteries. Will update once I can get hold of customer service

Seems to work well and produce consistent readings. Well made and in a good box with calibration solutions. Good clear instructions and laminated guide.

I ordered this TDS Pocket Tester because I was so impressed with the Apera PH meter. They seems to be high quality and built with lasting materials. It not your ordinary cheap light weight plastic PH meter. It is a little pricey, but this one will last! You will also get awesome Accuracy: ±1% F.S. Calibration is easy and exactly the same as you would do for the PH meter. In fact, both PH and TDS calibration is on the same page, same buttons and all. This make it very easy to remember how to calibrate without different manuals. I really like / appreciate the case, calibration and 2 calibration solutions are stored in a really nice strong case. Keeping everything together and ready to use is Key!! I have just started using the TDS meter and getting use to liquid nutrients. This is the reason I purchased the meter. From what I see so far it it a great TDS meter. I have nothing to compare to but just the impressive quality tells me I should be good with with one!
