Serves purpose, great value for the price

We were gifted a late 21.5” 2015 iMac that was perfect physically and cosmetically but unusable - MacOS updates had rendered it absurdly slow and, with a sealed enclosure, we were unable to update either the RAM or internal hard drive.I piggybacked this off the back of the iMac using Velcro (it’s tiny), connected it and installed the MacOS on this and it’s unbelievable - the machine is now fully usable by the kids for their homework. It’s saved a Mac from going to landfill!

I've been experiencing performance issues for some time with my iMac 2019 5k. Slow performance... extremely slow reboots... lots of spinning beachballs... that kind of thing. After a couple of support calls with Apple, and lots of checks, they advised me to purchase this drive, and set it up as my new Startup disk.Following some simple instructions in their support doc, it was set up in no time, and once I'd migrated the data overnight (there was a lot!), my iMac's performance has vastly improved.This LaCie SSD drive is the one that Apple recommend using with my model of iMac. I believe you can use it with other models, but you must do your own checks first, and possibly even open a support call with Apple.All in all, if you're having performance issues with your Mac with the more traditional Fusion/HDD drive, and you've thought about buying a new Mac... stop and have a think first!!This was an effective fix for me, that will hopefully buy me some more years with my trusty iMac!

Works beautifully on MacOS 15.5 but reformatted anyway to a different file system. This drive actually seems to contain an HDD rather than SDD, its presentation and text doesn’t really make that clear but still a good unit.Design is beautiful, function, speed and heat are all acceptable and price is good for a nicely designed drive.Why did you choose this product over others?:LaCie brand and design

Neat and compact, quite attractive (especially if you're an Apple devotee, won't look out of place with the rest of your gadgets), reasonable speed performance for a spinning disk. Well priced for the capacity, at least in the 'brand with support' space - obviously you can get a Chinese no-name device much cheaper.Plays nicely with Mac straight out of the box, so far a really good device to use with Time Machine. The real test will be longevity, which it's too early to comment on.

This was a replacement due to lightning damage. Working well. No problems as yet.

Every time I buy a LaCie drive - and I've bought a few over the years - something goes wrong. They really are the most unreliable drives I've ever used. In the past it's always been the power supply on desktop drives that failed. I'd given up buying them, as they were more expensive than drives not so 'designed for Macs'.Then this portable one caught my eye. All was well, it seemed the curse was lifted. That is, until after the return date expired. Now it's developed a habit of disconnecting from my Mac Mini unexpectedly. It also takes a lot longer than my other connected drives (some with larger capacity) to mount. Disk Utility doesn't even see it on those occassions, Very disappointed, but I should have known better.
