is this pack solely for creating skylanders characters or can you also play the game as well. trying to work out if i need to buy one of the other gam

Do older figures work with this? The Superchargers specifically.

Technically previous generation figures will work. Not sure about super chargers though--I think some of those might be vehicles and there seems to be no place for them in the game. HOWEVER, they will be much less powerful than the newer characters and will be killed easily. They will also not be able to access portions of the game called realms. Your children will quickly be convinced into needing newer better ones! Would not have bought this game if I realised this (it was totally predictable in retrospect)! Also, even when they create their own characters they will be limited to one of 8 types; each type will set you back a further £8. To fully access the game will cost you more than £180. Go into this with your eyes open.

Yes it comes with everything you need to start playing. Disc, a couple of players and the platform

does anyone know if you can use characters cross-console?

Yes, all the characters will work on all consoles.
