Triton Oscillating Spindle Sander – 450W Bench-Top Sander with 6 Sleeves, Tilting Table & Dust Extraction Port (TSPS450 / 516693)

This has proved to be an invaluable tool that is the natural 'go-to' tool after my band saw, whether I'm shaping something in wood or plastic. Easy to use, easy to buy replacement sanding drum sets and the dust extraction port works well via an improvised connection to my Henry vacuum. After about 10 months of light use the sander suddenly sparked and stopped working. A bit of panic later (it's only when it fails that you realise just HOW dependant on it you've become!) and Triton took it back and repaired it. Good as new, no problem since. To be honest, when I was negotiating the recall / repair I had in my mind that the sander cost twice what it actually did cost... so I was doubly pleased that they honoured the warranty on this £120 tool. Excellent tool, decent price and reassuringly good customer service.

Its cheap but it ain't nasty. This bobbin sander is sold under several brand names but the Triton badged one seems to be the cheapest by far. It is an excellent machine, sturdily built and using the supplied (80 grit) sanding sleeves really does remove wood to whatever shape or line you want. You can purchase 150 grit sleeves (Amazon cheapest) which leave an excellent finish and the sleeves themselves are high quality. Although it is noisy because it is a brushed rather than an induction motor, the oscillating mechanism is very effective in spreading the sanding surface and when a dust extractor is fitted there is absolutely no dust left on the cast iron table. The cast iron table should be protected by either lubricating wax or household polish to prevent rust but the plastic body, designed to store all the sleeves and spindle washers, is very substantial and requires no maintenance. Excellent tool at an excellent price.

I took delivery of this item just one day after I placed my order, which was and excellent service. However, reviews are about the product and not the company, so here goes. The good points: 1 -- Wide selection of sleeve diameters are availbel that will satisfy most needs. 2 -- Very efficient dust extraction system. 3 -- Several grades of grit sleeves available at a reasonable price. 4 -- Very easy to change sleeves using just a single nut on top of the shaft. The not-so-good points: 1 -- Some reviewers have marked down this machine because it has no tilting table. Well, that is unfair because, like me, they knew that no tilting capability was available when they ordered. I have not marked this machine down a point because of that. 2 -- The recess in the table for the plastic inserts is slightly deeper than the thickness of the sleeves. This produces a small edge against which small work-pieces can catch. I have overcome this by sticking strips of insulating tape under the sleeves to raise them so eliminating the edge. Problem solved, but it would be a very simple solution for Triton to resolve by producing thicker sleeves. Were it not for this small point, I would have given this machine five stars. TIP ON USE. Be careful not to press your work piece too hard against the rotating sleeves. You will create a dent in your work. This is not a criticism of this machine because the same will happen with other bobbin sanders. I am very pleased with this machine.

A good, sturdy bit of kit. Exactly as advertised which I should have taken more notice of. This is a lot bigger than I had anticipated. However, it is still a nice, easy to use, easy to set up and will do a perfect job. I have used this item for wood, plastic, leather, the possible uses are endless. I would recommend highly.

I have seen these being used on TV for years but I thought I would never be able to afford to buy one for my workshop, then I saw this on the Amazon website. Triton make some well priced tolls, not to a Rolls Royce standard but good enough for a hobby shop. Now I have used the sander I must say I was wrong, the sander is every bit as good as many much more expensive. It has a cast table and is very robust. It is actually much better than I expected and at the price one of the best buy tools on the market.

Very disappointed in this purchase. I bought it as a birthday present for my son who is developing an interest in woodworking. The sander was delivered promptly and was easy to assemble the bobbins etc. But the unit didn't power up. I could hear a low hum from the unit, so the problem isn't a fused plug. Triton need to exercise better quality control - this should never have passed QC. Thankfully Amazon refunded me without a quibble.

Seller extremely helpful, small fault on product that was from manufacturer, seller sorted problem immediately new parts arrived would definitely buy from them again.

This is a very solid piece of kit - I have not had the chance to try it but I'm pretty impressed with all Triton products I've bought to date - It is slightly bigger than I thought - and as I am taking it overseas, it will not fit into my suitcase with the box but the box-size is within the H-W-D check-in luggage dimensions :) The sanding spindles are large and quite bespoke - do make sure you buy enough sanding tubes to last a while - just in case they are hard to come-by. Can't wait to try it out :)
