Must-have for anyone who wants a rich, creamy lather
This soap refill is a must-have for anyone who wants a rich, creamy lather for a smooth, comfortable shave. The soap is enriched with glycerin, which helps to lubricate the skin and prevent irritation while shaving. It also has a pleasant, masculine scent that will leave you feeling fresh and clean. One of the best things about this soap refill is how long it lasts. A little goes a long way, and a single refill can last for months, making it an excellent value for the price. And because it's so easy to create a rich lather, you'll get a close, comfortable shave every time. Overall, if you're looking for a high-quality shaving soap that will provide a smooth, comfortable shave and leave you smelling great, the Tabac Soap Refill is definitely worth checking out.

Smells Good and Easy to Lather
I was looking for an easy to lather daily soap equivalent to the Palmolive which seems to be unatainable in the UK at the moment. After a little research, Tabac seemed to be a possible alternative, especially as it is tallow based, which I have found to be an ideal ingredient for shaving soap. So, I bought the refill puck and placed it into one of my flat-bottomed wooden containers (upside down so it didn't rock about). First use, I soaked it in water, as usual, to bloom the soap, but unusually, a lot of soap disolved into the water. The second time I tried just wetting the top, which worked ok, but I suspected may not be necessary. So, as an experiment, I decided to lather on a dry puck (something I never do). Having soaked my brush, I only allowed the excess to drip from the bristles, then I began building lather, lots and lots of lather, very easily and within one minute the brush was loaded and ready to go! This soap is even easier to lather than the Palmolive, whether the puck is pre-soaked or dry, with any brush, bristle or badger, from the stiffest to the softest, you will be able to lather this soap. Just be aware, though, that this soap likes lots of water compared to others, hence why it worked so well with a dripping wet brush. The photos show three of my brushes that I have tried: a large boar bristle, an extra dense silver tip badger, and a large silver tip badger (the latter usually being useless for soaps). The opinion of the scent seems divided, and as always, is personal taste. I like woody fragrances more than floral, and I like the smell of this, although it still doesn't top sandalwood, for me. The shave is quite decent, although the slickness could be better. The Palmolive devinitely betters the Tabac in this department. Even so, it is still nice to shave with and the lather remains on the face without disipating as it dries, and can easily be rehydrated if needed. Overall a very good soap, and one I would recommend. A good choice for anyone who wants a soap that is quick and easy to lather and provides a decent shave and enjoys a traditional aroma.

A traditional product
I was given a shaving bowl several years ago and had never used it because I couldnt find any shaving soap to go in it until I noticed that Tabac provide shaving soap to fit the bowl. After using shaving gel for years which foams up nicley it is noticable that the Tabac shaving soap is quite soapy but not as thick as the gel I have grown used to. So it is a different experience but nevertheless it works and the smell is the traditional Tabac smell.

It makes shaving a pleasure
If you wet shave then this is an excellent soap, no need to look any further. I highly recommend this soap and other Tabac shaving products.

A classic shaving soap in both fragrance & performance.
A must have in every gentleman's shaving kit. A timeless aroma, not easy to describe but has a class of its own. This product has been around since 1959 & has been a firm favourite for generations with good reason. Bloom first with hot water and set the bloom water aside. Then having soaked your brush in hot water, drain a little & whisk the soap, it quickly lathers. Use the the bloom water & little soap from the bowl to massage onto a wet face. Then using the brush, work into a nice thick cream for a couple of minutes to soften the hairs & lubricate the skin, then get cracking with the razor. If you enjoy the whole shaving process you'll understand when I describe the shaving experience as excellent.

I had never smelled Tabac before I purchased this, so I was a little leary. There are some comparisons made to an "old woman's purse" when the scent is described. However, the overwhelmingly high reputation for the lathering ability of this soap forced me to give it a try anyway. I'm glad I did, as this is now my go-to soap for day-to-day use (I do use other soaps when i want to mix it up a bit). If you have trouble making lather with other shaving soaps, try this one, it's pretty much a no-brainer. Rich, dense, creamy lather with minimal effort. I've been using soap/brush for over twenty years, and Tabac is my new benchmark for lather quality. My lathering procedure: I soak my boar brush (Semogue 620) in warm water while I'm showering. I'll also put a few drops of water on top of the soap, not much, just a flick of water off of my fingers. After the shower, I'll shake all the excess water off of my brush and swirl it around on top of the soap for 10-15 seconds. I'm not timing it, or anything, just loading the brush. I'll then splash just a bit more water onto the brush and start working the brush on my face, doing swirls and a painting motion to work the soap into dense lather that has the consistency of yogurt. With a little bit of practice/experience, you can easily build enough lather in your brush to do multiple shaving passes. Some people work up the lather in their hand, or use a mug/bowl. Those work great also, I just prefer to face-lather. I use a DE razor to shave with, so the slickness that is provided by a nice rich soap lather makes for a much more comfortable shave. Tabac soap provides great slickness. Even after a pass of the blade, there's a ton of residual slickness to allow a touch-up or buff without necessarily re-applying the lather. Once properly made, Tabac's lather is amazingly dense, and long-lasting. If you find that it isn't slick enough for you, add a bit more water to your brush. The scent of Tabac is mostly just "old-fashioned soap", in my opinion. There's some powder, a bit of lavender in the background, along with other woody/floral notes. I've read some reviews where people note that they smell "cigarette smoke" but I do not get that at all. I get some tobacco flower in with the woody/floral notes, but not cigarette or smoke. At any rate, after rinsing off when my shave is complete, there's minimal lingering aroma from the soap, and after applying aftershave, it's all gone completely. I do like the scent of Tabac, but even if I didn't, the quality of the lather far outweighs any downside the scent may have for some folks, I think. I highly recommend Tabac shave soap. Scents are a personal thing, so I can't really recommend that part of it. The things I look for in a shave soap are all here, though. One final thing to comment on; This is a very dense puck of soap. It will last a tremendously long time, and give many months of regular use. I've probably used this at least 60 times, and I don't think I've even used a third of the soap. In a cost-per-shave analysis, this sure is hard to beat, if you are somebody who tracks that sort of thing.

¡Ojo!
