Lighter & easier to use
I've had many Philips Linda hair removal IPL's before. I used to agonise when I had to do it every 6 weeks or so because they're so heavy & difficult to hold. My arm would be hiring at the end. So when my last one (yet again) stopped working (they have battery issues, you're supposed to use them at least every 6 months or more often otherwise the battery 🔋 stops working & charging. Although on my previous one, I had used it 2-3 months before. Philips kindly exchanged them for me & refunded when possible if in warranty. I have to say, even with infrequent & not always sticking to schedule (either due to forgetting OR summer time as tanning & IPL don't go together for me, it really stings my skin, I have light olive skin, dark hair, tan deeply quickly), I've had impressive results. One thing about Philips IPL that has a winner over others for me 8s that I was told all their BRI range (I believe all their models after 2017) are designed to work not only over shaved hair but tweezed out or waxed hair also. I'm still in the process of using these but they seem as good as the bigger & heavier models. Philips told me they're the same. Note that this model doesn't have a skin detection button (which automatically detects the number suitable for your skin, but I had one of those before & the number is sometimes too high& I get done discomfort). I have 2 points I'd like to give feedback for Philips Lines range. One us please please make the devices KIGHTER & SMAKKER, thus easier to hold & use. Another thing Philips needs to improve with them is why they all look so similar OLYS it's not easy to detect from the box or even looking at the device which model you have. They need to be more distinguished. Please read the instructions carefully prior to use. It is very important.

So Far So Good
Being fair skinned and fair haired (at least when I was younger), hair removal has never been an urgent matter, but more a question of how much effort I can be bothered making. In the last year however, age and genetics have caught up with me resulting in gradual appearance of some longish and more visible hair on my lip and chin (sorry for the childish giggling back in the day, Grandma). Initially I tried using depilatory cream but my skin was quite sensitive to it and regrowth was fairly quick. Bleaching was an improvement but again didn't address regrowth. I started looking a IPL devices in the hope of finding something effective for the long-term. I chose this particular model after reading about its suitability for my skin and hair type - I needed something to deal with the appearance of darker hairs against my lighter skin. What I got resembles an electronic pricing gun. It comes with a smaller precision attachment for areas like my lip and chin and a larger attachment for wider coverage on legs. This model has a detachable power cable and plug - it is not cordless. There is a small cleaning cloth, and a zipped bag the size of a smallish make-up case which all the parts fit into. There is also a 2 year guarantee and an instruction book with colour illustrations. I carried out the initial test as instructed and found that I was able to go up to the highest power setting 5 without any discomfort. Before using the device you have to remove the hair from the area you want to treat. I have bought a small wand-like shaver separately for my face and found that conveniently there is also room in the bag provided to keep all the kit together. I have completed the initial 8 week phase of fortnightly treatments. Each time I used the device it has felt warm but has not caused me any irritation or discomfort. Initially I sometimes felt some tingling on my skin but felt that was the result of shaving rather than the treatment. The device is very quiet, sounding like a small hair dryer with a silencer. It is easy to use. After choosing your power setting and the appropriate attachment, the flash release button can be pressed for one flash on the precision areas or held down to release a series of flashes as you glide the device over a larger area like you leg. It's worth taking it slowly with the larger areas to ensure even coverage. A band of light on the back of the device shows you when it is ready to fire so it's practically fool-proof to use. I am pleased with the results so far. My facial hair, the main reason for buying this, has all but disappeared. I have also used it on my legs which have shown a great reduction in regrowth too. I will continue to monitor progress over a longer period and report back on the long-term effects.

Do not give up, it works eventually
First of all, I find the device easy to use and the pain easy to tolerate even on the highest setting. After the first two to three treatments, I was getting frustrated and almost stopped using the device thinking it was a waste of money and time as I did not see any difference. I am so glad I did not give up, however, as I started noticing a huge improvement after the third or fourth time I used it. To be fair, I have to add that I was not very hairy to start with, but my legs are now pretty much hair free, I spend maybe five minutes weekly on removing the very few and fine strands of hair still left in that area. I still get some hair on my underarms but way, way less than I used to before starting the treatment, and I am hoping that even those will stop growing if I continue. It takes the longest to see results in the bikini area, partly because the skin is more delicate there so I did not use the device on the highest setting, unlike on the legs and underarms. Still, I can see a big difference already and hoping for more over time. To summarize, it is not a miracle device but excellent value for money, much cheaper and more convenient than going to a salon. Results are probably not as good or as quick either, but a good low cost alternative. Tip: hold the device straight and press firmly down on the piece of skin being treated. I saw the best results over the areas where I did this as opposed to 'hovering' over the skin. Holding it straight down will also prevent the laser light hurting your eyes.
