Win Every Argument by Mehdi Hasan, the art of persuading, debating and public speaking is a book which has equal amount of real life examples as well as theory to back that up. The book also acts as a workbook for the readers. The author himself is a journalist and interviews a lot of people. He talks about majority of this depends on how we frame the things and our sentences while communicating. Debating, is an art which needs you to practice and good performance while putting forward an argument. The questioning the premise behind the notion is equally important. I found this book very useful as it would also help me in my daily life and corporate life. I highly recommend you all to check this book out and let me know how it goes for you all.

Mehdi Hasan ist ein Britischer Journalist, der unter anderem für die BBC und den New Statesman gearbeitet hat, für Al Jazeera und als Kolumnist für u.a. The Intercept, The New York Times und The Washington Post. Außerdem hat er The Mehdi Hasan Show und wird oft zu Talkshows eingeladen. Im Jubilee - eine Art argumentativer Gladiatorenkampf - hat er vor Kurzem mit 20 rechts- bis ultrarechtspolitischen Amerikaner/innen eineinhalb Stunden über aktuelle politische Themen gestritten. Er ist also ziemlich geübt im verbalen Schlagabtausch. Vor etwa einem Jahr hat er mit Zeteo noch zusammen mit einigen Mitstreiter/innen eine neue Nachrichtenplattform geschaffen. In dem vorliegenden Buch erklärt er - ausgehend von seiner eigenen Arbeit, aber auch der historischer Vorbilder bis hin zu Cicero, wie man eine effektive Rede halten kann - und vor allem Dingen, wie man Streitgespräche in privaten, beruflichen und politischen Raum sicher gewinnen kann. Außer gegen seine Frau. Zunächst stellt er, ausgehend von Cicero, die Grundlagen der argumentativen Rhetorik vor, bevor er im zweiten Teil auf einige Spezialtechniken, wie 'verbales Judo' oder die Dreierregel eingeht. Dabei schaut er auch auf den in den letzten Jahren immer öfter zu beobachtenden Gish Gallop ein und wie man diesen gegebenenfalls kontern kann. Im dritten Teil geht es dann um die Vorbereitungsarbeit, die man für eine gute Rede oder ein gutes Streitgespräch leisten muss, wie etwa gute Recherchearbeit, mentale und emotionale Vorbereitung und Training. Am Schluss wird dann sinnigerweise erläutert, wie man vernünftig zu Schluß kommt. Weil viel Bezug auf andere Redner/innen, Bücher und Sendungen genommen wird umfasst das Quellenverzeichnis 34 Seiten, gefolgt von einem 17-seitigen Glossar. Ein solides, lehrreiches Buch eines wirklichen Spezialisten, voller oft humoriger Beispiele und Anekdoten. Ein wertvolles geistiges Werkzeug in unserer diskussionsfreudigen Zeit.

Well written by a brilliant interviewer. The book is certainly a helpfull guide to having a rational discussion, however I believe that it won't necessarily turn you into another Mehdi Hasan. Critical thinking can be taught to some degree but it still helps to have a naturally sharp mind capable of storing, retreaving and processing the information you need when you need it and that is either an inborn talent or the result of a lot of cerebral exercise.

This is comprehensive, compelling book, not just on mastering the art of debate, but also of public speaking itself. Hasan is a master of both. He shares his method of taking apart opponents arguments (and in some cases, the opponents themselves) to persuade his audiences. If you YouTube him, you'll see how effective his techniques are - especially in the Jubilee debate where he was challenged by 20 extreme right-wingers. Highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to present their views more effectively, or simply become a better speaker.
