i have a 2yr old, 34kg Akita, would this be suitable

Yes. Mine is a cross between Akita and husky. He's just 5 months but the toy is very good for him and he didn't try breaking it. But it makes lot of noise.

would this be suitable for a border terrier weighing 11/12kgs

Absolutely right for a border terrorist (as I call my border terrier Molly). Suggest the small one would be just right, the larger one is a bit heavy. Molly has the smaller one and gets her canine tooth in the hole and tosses it in the air to try and get the tit bits out sometimes, which is hilarious. Good thing about the larger size though is that it doesn't go under the furniture.

Would this only suit biscuit type treats or would the chewy ones come out easy if they were cut up small obviously?

I can't see why not if they're cut up to a size that fits through the hole. We give our Choc Lab most of his meals from it. It stops him eating fast and gets his brain working.

what is the aperture size for the treats to go through? I wonder whether my dog's treats would be the right size or too big or small.

The hole is about 1.5cm diameter. I tend to fill it with doggie choc drops and also the small bone biscuits.
