There are Two problems with US Chocolate Cereals, First they tend to be very sweet. The balance between flavor and sweetness is heavily tilted towards making it more sweet. Not many people know but The United States requires a lesser percentage cacao in their chocolates, ten percent to be exact, while in Europe anything considered “chocolate” is twenty percent or higher. Second Problem with US Chocolate Cereals is that they are more often now "Chocolatey" not Chocolate Cereals. To qualify as chocolate under FDA standards, the product has to contain a minimum amount of chocolate liquor. Products not meeting those minimum requirements must be labeled as chocolaty or chocolate-flavored. They are sometimes called compound chocolate. Compound chocolate still uses cocoa powder as the chocolate flavoring, but the fat comes from a source other than cocoa butter – typically vegetable oil. You might see hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oils such as palm, soybean or cottonseed oil listed on the packaging. These ingredients should send up red flags about the quality of the chocolate-flavored product. Quality chocolate needs rich cocoa butter on its ingredients list to produce that melt-in-your-mouth texture chocolate lovers crave. So why do chocolate makers use vegetable oil instead of cocoa butter? It usually comes down to price and how easy it is to work with. In short you will enjoy the taste and quality of this Real Chocolate Cereal.

For what it is & what you're getting, this cereal tends to be on the expensive side; But this is understandable because Chocapic is not sold in United States. In short, this cereal is hands down the king of chocolate cereals. Back when I was 13, I went to Peru for vacation and that was when I was introduced to Chocapic. I was blown away on how good the cereal was and wondered why they don't have this cereal here. Maybe if there was a demand for it, we could one day have our own domestic version of Chocapic in the US, but as of now, imports will have to do. Will be buying more of these regularly, every now and then. I just wished they sold a bigger bag or had an option to buy in bulk for a cheaper price.

Not an overly sweet chocolatey flavor and the crunch is there but not too hard or sandpapery

Okay, so here's the thing. I bought this cereal in the middle of this COVID pandemic because I'm pregnant and I had a really strong craving for Cocoa Puffs, but I tried to order them three times from the grocery store with no luck. So, was it an impulsive decision? Yes. Am I a little ashamed of how much money I spend on a bag of cereal? Also yes. But this is a crazy time and we all do what we need to get through it. Ultimately, the cereal is pretty good. If it were available in the grocery store here in the U.S. so that I didn't have to pay this exorbitant price for it, I would buy it again. However, now that I'm no longer cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs I have the clarity of mind to realize that this was not my best financial decision.

This cereal is delicious. The chocolatey taste is not overpowering nor is it excessively sweet, like other chocolate cereals. One of the best things about it is it leaves the milk chocolatey and so yummy. This is the taste of my childhood and I will be buying more of these for sure! I wish it were more reasonably-priced, though.
