Excellent as usual from Sony. Mind the cage compatability!
The Sony ECM-B10 Shotgun Microphone has significantly elevated my audio recording experience with the Sony ZV-E1, delivering crisp and clear sound. However, it’s crucial to note potential compatibility issues with certain cages, such as SmallRig. Let’s start with the positive aspects. The ECM-B10 is a compact and powerful shotgun microphone that seamlessly integrates with the Sony ZV-E1, capturing audio with impressive clarity and reducing unwanted ambient noise. Its lightweight design complements the ZV-E1’s portability, making it an ideal choice for on-the-go videography. Now, the caveat. Some cages, like SmallRig, may not have accounted for the use of an external microphone like the ECM-B10. This can lead to challenges in mounting the microphone securely, and users may need to explore additional solutions or modifications to make it work seamlessly with their setup. Despite the potential cage compatibility concerns, the ECM-B10 itself is a top-tier microphone. Its direct connection to the ZV-E1 ensures a hassle-free recording experience, and the included windscreen is effective in reducing wind noise during outdoor shoots. In summary, the Sony ECM-B10 Shotgun Microphone is a fantastic choice for enhancing audio quality on the Sony ZV-E1. However, potential compatibility issues with certain cages should be considered, especially if you plan to use accessories like SmallRig. Ensure you explore suitable mounting options to make the most of this excellent microphone in your videography setup.

Sony's camera-mount microphone solution, and it's STEREO too
So if you're into videography or vlogging, then you've probably noticed that everyone has a Rode branded microphone atop their cameras even if they own something from the Sony A6xxx range. I find Sony's offering to be a better alternative. The sound quality is very good from it's two STEREO (left and right) microphone elements, which can be moved in and out to change the width of the sound stage recorded. No other microphone at this price level provides these features. It comes with an optional wind shield of the long-fur variety which you push over the microphone elements and it's held in place in high wind with an elasticated strap at the back. The microphone also has a low-cut switch on the side to remove the very low frequency effects of high pressure air swirling around the microphone. It really works, too - as does the wind shield. You should also know that this microphone has a sprung mount, so the body of the unit will wobble to dampen down any vibrational noise or movement from the camera body. The sprung movement is between the hot shoe and the main body, so whereas something like the Rode microphones have a lengthened mount path made from a special plastic, Sony adopts this approach. It does mean the unit looks nice and professional in use. If you own an A6000 or one of the models in the A6xxxx range that doesn't have an external microphone input, this is the only way of getting audio from an external microphone as the sound is transmitted though the mi (multi-interface) hot shoe to which it attaches. If you have a camera that does have a microphone input, be it Sony or not, there is a "microphone out" stereo socket on the side of the unit and Sony do provide a short lead in the box to connect between this microphone and your camera's microphone socket. The microphone doesn't have any power requirement at all, so this is possible on any camera with a separate microphone input. And you can either just fit it to the flash hot shoe on your camera or buy a cold-shoe mount as the means of holding/securing the unit. Overall, given it's stereo, it has positional microphone elements, it has a wind shield supplied, a microphone to camera lead, and it has a low-cut switch built in, I find this item is second to none in terms of price/audio quality/features. You can go Rode if you want, but you should really give this unit a try.

Plug into Sony hot shoe no wires required... MAYBE!
There is a lot of hype over this mic especially for bloggers and vloggers. the Sony hot shoe certainly gives you a tidy set up with no wires but i cant say the sound was fantastic, the sound was fine. the range is about normal distance from the camera before you start to fade 8ft dependent on your voice of course, it is a stereo mic but you can adjust the mics performance in just a couple of ways. however again you need to check compatibility with your product and for more adjustment you will have to connect the wire if recording in analog. overall its an ok mic with a supplied dead cat ...or wind muffler which ever you want to call it, that also works ok but not brilliant im trying to find a better dead cat for it.

Decent stereo sound and separation, at last!
Excellent little stereo microphone for my new Sony AX53 camcorder! What a difference it's made to the stereo sound! The built-in mic might just as well have been a mono one, hardly any stereo separation at all. This new one really makes things come to life, so you can tell where a sound's coming from. I have a feeling the output of this mic is quite high, but haven't performed any conclusive tests yet. If so, this is a good thing, as the audio recording level can therefore be set to manual and brought down, lowering any built-in pre-amp noise with it. Even with the supplied windshield attached, I found that a moderate bit of wind brought the audio levels up very high when set on "Auto", which, again, leads me to believe it would be possible to lower to mic's input level quite a bit manually. A beautiful little add-on, with high-quality, true stereo sound, at last.

Easy Audio
It makes everything easy on a compatible Sony camera. I tried various settings. For me it works best on auto volume with filters and attenuation set on 0 (unless the camera levels show clipping). I'll put a bit of filter and compression on in the editing software normally, but it's perfectly usable straight out of camera.

Mic stereo piccolo, leggero, performante.

As a professional wedding videographer, I'm loving this new mic from Sony. The ability to change the direction of the audio capture, from front, to back to wide to narrow right through to stereo is fantastic. Its like I have 2 mics in 1. On top of that, its so small that I can put it on my gimbal camera without it putting my gimbal out of balance. It comes with a wind shield and both digital & analogue connection options. - my tip is to use the supplied connector cap when storing the mic, as I've had damaged the fine pins on the digital connectors on previous digital mic connections. This mic is a no brainer if you want an all in one solution for your Sony camera.
