Q: Are the side buttons cut out or are they protected?

They are not cut out. They are protected. Of course I don't know how well they will work as the phones haven't shipped yet from Google.

Camera bump is recessed with the case on

Q: Is the tacky brand logo actually printed on the back?

No, my case has no logo or anything on it, it's just clear. The G logo is on the phone itself. Mine does not have the small logo shown in the photo.
