Hello Chuckster,Thank you for asking that question. Since this is a self-fusing tape, we would recommend wrapping it on something wherein it can apply pressure to itself. You can, however, lay it on top of each other so that it would have a greater traction. Also, for your specific application, you may want to try out our Aluminum Tape. It seals leaks with an industrial grade sealing and it can also provide a neat appearance to the overall repair, not to mention the temperature insulation and conduction that it can provide on many other applications. Q: Will the tape adhere to pvc vinyl, example above-ground swimming pool?

Hello Molly,The XFasten Silicone Tape is a SELF-FUSING tape, which means that it only fuses with itself. Therefore, it should work fine if you adhere it to itself on a PVC vinyl. However, if you wish to adhere it on a flat surface where it can't fuse to itself by wrapping the whole device, then we would recommend our HVAC tape. It will stick to PVC Vinyl as well and it has good insulation and high-pressure resistance properties, so it should be ideal for an above-ground swimming pool. Q: how does it compare with rescue tape brand?

If rescue is what I've used previously, (sold at HD) then the only diff is is the stretch. This tape stretches 100% vs Rescue 300%. The 100 is enough and doesn't thin out as much.
