Is the batten 100% cotton?

No- the batting no not cotton. This very thin quilt is light and runs hot.

After your quilt arrived did anyone notice brown spots?

Yes and no... The quilt set was bought for my 108-year-old grandpappy, Daddy "Baby Prober" Prunes. His brand new sheets had not only brown spots but brown SMEARS just two days after I put the clean set on his bed. Somehow they transferred onto this quilt from the day they appeared on his sheets until the next day when the same spots and smears had moved onto his quilt! Hillie Billie - our lovely maid - said she swears (and we brought out Daddy Prunes' good Bible to make her swear on it) that she washed the sheets immediately after my wife scolded her but Billie has always been a scoundrel, compulsive gambler, liar, and junk food addict. It's a strange phenomenon we've all experienced! I wonder what we all share in common in life. Do you guys enjoy eating large marshmallows plain? Is your favorite color rainbow? Do you wear flip-flops in the fall because they're comfy for you (even after the mold and fungus dried up, crusted, and fell off your feet)? My answer to all of those questions is "No."

Has anyone found a way to avoid the bleeding of the stripes? I fell in love with this and I can't find anything similar in the price range

I bought the same one and washed it, alone, on the cold water settings. Dryer it alone on regular heat and it didn't bleed or fade at all. The second time it needed washed, I did it the same way. Third time washed on normal warm water with other clothes and it was fine. Hope this helps.
