If you are new to vegan, this is a great book!
I am new to a diary free lifestyle and I am finding vegan recipes really comforting. So far the recipes have been easy to follow. I just wish there were also pictures in the book, sounds finicky, but it would be nice to at least have a vague idea of what it is suppose to look like...but otherwise, awesome cookbook!

So worth the purchase!
Vegan never read so well! Doug McNish's book is nothing short of mah-valous! Not completely vegan yet? You might be a convert after whipping up a few of these tasty meals.

Great for the gluten-free vegan, but something about it . . .
I'm still not sure about this cookbook. I made the Teatime Smoothie, which came out kind of thin and tasteless. Could have been the green tea I made. I made it with the Coconut Milk recipe in the book, which also came out thin. That, however, could have been due to my blender, because I noticed pockets of coconut cream, but there was no way it wanted to incorporate with the water to make Coconut Milk. Also made the Eggplant and Tempeh Paella. The only change I made was adding an organic green pepper. It was good. Not drop-dead good, but good. Same with the Fettuccini with Lemon Parsley White Wine Sauce. A strong GOOD, but not a yowser-drop-your-trousers-must-have-this-all-the-time good. I also made the Crispy No-Crab Cakes with Creamy Coleslaw. I made a quick-fix vegan tartar sauce because I didn't want to part with a full cup of tahini, which isn't cheap. In all fairness, I never had a "real" crab cake. The cornmeal coating provided a nice crunchy exterior. The coleslaw was a bit bland. I guess my complaint is the same tips are repeated again and again. Perhaps that's because people aren't able to flip pages to another page to read that particular tip. I also didn't realize it was completely gluten-free. I have problems with that. People with genuine Celiac disease I feel for. It's a real condition and unpleasant as well. People who are just gluten-free because it's the latest fad, I can't tolerate. I am fortunate to be very gluten-tolerant. Thank goodness, because "wheat flour" sounds much safer and cleaner to me than "xantham gum." The format of the book is not exciting. Whisper thin paper that I'm kind of afraid to have out on my kitchen counter when cooking. There are pictures, very cleverly organized by color. I truly don't know what bothers me about this cookbook. I will most likely try some more things from it, and at around $18 for 500 recipes, it's a bargain.

You won't miss the meat!
I'm a big fan of Douglas McNish and again this book does not hold back or disappoint (I also have his "Eat Raw, Eat Well" recipe book). If there's something you're craving, it's probably in the "Vegan Everyday" recipe book and at least for some I can be pretty sure there's something you've never dreamed of. I'm looking forward to this one being one of my main "go to" and "travel along with" recipe books.

J'ai reçu en temps et en heure, dans un état parfait, ce livre dont je souhaitais faire l'acquisition depuis un moment. Je n'ai pas encore mis en pratique les recettes, mais j'ai pu voir qu'elles étaient imaginatives et appétissantes (photos sympa en milieu d'ouvrage), pour tous convives, même les non-végan. Les prochaines vacances vont être l'occasion pour moi de passer aux fourneaux !

This has been a great book so far. I've tried three full recipes and they have been both easy and delicious. There are a few new ingredients that I haven't been familiar with using before but after making a quick stop into my local health food store I was able to get what I needed. I guess the only downfall to the recipes is I find it makes a lot. Even cutting the ingredients in half is still too much for two people sometimes. I would honestly say the food is delicious and even my meat-eating boyfriend loved the burritos.... He ate six!!! I'm so impressed with the taste and textures that come out of this book. I eat with my eyes forsure so I was hesitant about how eager I would be to try the recipes with the lack of photos but everything is just so darn tastey!!! I would strongly recommend this book!!

This book has very quickly become my go-to book for inspiration. I have a tried a few of the recipes, and so far, I love them all : Sautéed Ginger Miso Tempeh, Chipotle Walnut Mushroom and Rice burgers, Teriyaki Tofu, Crispy Chickpea Stir-Fry, and Apple Crisp. All turned out delicious. I plan to try a lot more. However, don’t expect to lose weight with these recipes. Lots and lots of nuts are called in most of the recipes, adding fat and calories. Grant you, nuts give you good fatty acids, however, calories still count if you need to watch your weight. I would give five-stars, but there a two things that prevent me from doing it : 1) the lack of photos (and the fact that some of the few photos included are pictures of vegetables, and not of recipes); 2) the fact that this is a gluten-free book. I noticed there were gluten-free meals in the book when I read the back page, but I hadn’t counted on ALL recipes being gluten-free. Not suffering from any gluten-related ailment, I was a bit disappointed not to find a goot seitan recipe in there. But I do realise this can be a bonus for many people. Let’s just say, then, the missing star is because of the lack of photos.
