Can you shorten straps to make it a more shoulder hobo style? Or must it always be long crossbody style.

I had a couple additional holes punched on each side of the strap to shorten it some. It made it better for me since I am quite short. It seems much better.

How much does it weigh?

We are traveling at this time and my wife left the handbag at our home, but a good guess is somewhere close to 1 and 1/2 lbs. I would think it is probably due to the good quality of the leather used. As a husband who does not own a handbag, but has taken an engineer’s attitude in purchasing several handbags over 50 years or so, I’ve noticed a difference in weight of Dooney and Bourke handbags and the brands which are cheaper. In my estimation that’s why it represents quality and contentment with the purchase. Hope this helps.
