The Field Guide to Global Payments

I work in the Fintech industry - specifically a global payments processor, and can say this book is a great intro to the subject, covering a wide range of relevant topics in a well-summarized and easy to read manner. There are certainly other books that dive deeper into some of the topics, but as a 101 this is up to date and on point in the subjects covered.

What a relief to read a smart, well-written book that delivers on its promise of useful content. So many biz books give too many redundant examples for the content they provide. This book is different. I found the writing and organization to be logical, thoughtful, and easily accessible to readers at all levels of experience.

Absolutely a field guide, and certainly not a reference manual. Great for an overview of payments infrastructure and the industry, but still missing some things like ISO 20022 messaging, correspondent banking, and DNS networks’ impact on processing among banks in the B2B section.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with a payments savant over the past couple of years, and he has drip-fed me my understanding of this complex space over that time. I would confidently say that after two years I confidently understand about 10-20%. Given the above disclaimer, I’d say the author has provided sufficient instruction for anyone wishing to get into this world - or especially those already dealing with payments and wanting to better understand why things are the way they are. This will be required reading for anyone coming into my company going forward.

I work in fintech – this book's a great primer for those looking for a friendly introduction to how payments and payment tech have developed over time. Compared to other books covering the same breadth of material, I found this to be a friendly read and a helpful refresher!

For anyone looking to ground their understanding of the card payments ecosystem and vocabulary will find this a easy to read, clearly presented tutorial.

Too Costly considering content is very basic. Good for someone to get basic Payment domain info if you already know basic stuff then no real value add.

Excellente introduction au concepts et process liés au paiement. Prends en considération une bonne partie des systèmes de paiement (pas seulement celui des USA). M'a permis de reconnecter certains concepts qui n"étaient pas totalement clairs pour moi. Vient en complément d'un autre livre très connu sur le sujet "payment systems .... from the salt mines to the board room" mais avec plus d'exemples.

This book is outstanding for anyone entering the field of payments or interested in learning more about the space. Sophia lays out all you need to know about the way global payments work in a simple yet comprehensive manner.

Waste of money if you have even basic knowledge about payment process. There are general definitions and sub-optimal examples all through the book.
