Super precise, super high quality, but buyer beware this is not for the novice to install!!! I constructed an entire wall to wall built in book case, this was absolutely the hardest and unequivocally the most difficult thing I had to do! I'm a pretty good carpenter, but I had to take 3 days just to wrap my head around the way this mounts, IT'S VERY PRECISE AND YOU ONLY GET ONE CHANCE or your whole project is screwed and you have to start over or somehow cover up your mistake especially if it's all trimmed out and finished or painted like mine. HINT: If you were to mount it to a flat board first then mount that board it would make it a whole lot easier, I didn't have that choice because I didn't wanna cover up all my trim work I had completed (and painted). Whew! It's up and absolutely gorgeous and perfect. I'll up-date later with a photo once I get my "antique" ladder finished that I chose to go with for the character I'm going for in my library study. Look, if you are a weekend warrior and have never done much precision work in your life, then this is probably not the project for you. The kit is great, but it takes a lot of VERY CAREFUL measuring, layout, drilling, and lining up parts. The parts are stainless steel, which is not the easiest material to work with, but it is certainly nice to look at. I bought the 12' rail, which comes in 3 4' long sections, each with 3 mounting points and 2 section joining pieces and end caps. My library shelves are 10' long, so I cut down one of the 4' sections and drilled new mounting holes. I put the short section in the middle and it only has 2 mounting pads instead of 3. The pictures of the stainless parts are the mounting pads which consist of 3 main pieces. The round barrel-shaped piece is inside the tube and the screw goes through a hole in the tube. The hole is considerably larger than the screw, so there is room to mess with alignment if you must. The flat round disk gets mounted to the board that ultimately supports your ladder (I made most everything from red oak). That's one of the tricky parts: once you mount the disk, it has to be right b/c the other 2 parts are attached to the heavy tubing that the ladder rides on. Those pieces have to be tight before you mount the rail to the board, since all of the fasteners except the 2 that hold each rod assembly to the already-mounted disk, are hidden. I did the layout on the board on saw horses to be sure that it all was aligned and the spacing was correct. It won't go together if any of the mounting pads are more than 1/32" out of line. Trust me on that. So if you are keeping score, that's 40 screws that have to be in just the right place (8 mounting pads, 5 screws each). I also mounted the rollers inset into the ladder rails, which required some fixturing to ensure that the 1" slot was dead center on the rails. My rails are 1-1/8" thick, which only left 1/16 of oak on either side. I made a mock up out of a 2x4 before doing any cutting on the (pricey) oak boards. Yeah, so if you are up for a finicky project that comes with great reward (when you manage to get it done), this is for you. I am very impressed with the quality of the materials as well as their finish. Everything is gorgeous, heavy, and made to outlast the builder.

I was looking for a reasonably priced library ladder hardware package when I came across this product. I was not looking for anything fancy, just functional. And I must admit, when I received the package I was very impressed. As advertised, all of the hardware was in fact stainless steel. I tested this with a magnet; rails, hardware and screws (stainless is not magnetic). It passed the test. It’s definitely stainless with a grade of 301 to 303. The rollers are impressively smooth. The mounting hardware is very well machined and all the screws and mounts align well. My suggestion: Because of the tight tolerances of the hardware, there isn’t any “wiggle room”. I would highly recommend that you assemble the rail assembly onto the board you intend to hang the ladder hardware on on a flat surface like a work bench. Measure accurately as once you mount the supports, there is no room for error. Once you have assembled the entire rail assembly, dissemble the rail hardware and hang the board onto the surface where the ladder will go and reassemble the rail assembly. It is not often I submit reviews but I was so impressed with working with this product that I had to give it the credit it deserves.

It is solid, well made, beautifully finished and the ladder glides like silk. I cut it to fit, and everything just fell into place. I gave the ladder that we purchased in conjunction with this (they are in no way related) a one-star though it deserved zero, and the contrast between the two is amazing. Cannot say enough good things about this unit.

the parts we received were ok, but we thought we were buying the hardware (minus the wood ladder) pictured in middle photo. Now we realize that wheels were not included and we have to order separate. NOT a good deal after all. When we went back and read the description we realized that wheels were not listed as included but if they were honest it would have said "ladder and wheels at bottom are not included". We have to wonder, inconsiderate ignorant omission, or intentionally misleading. All the other kits we looked at (approx same price) had wheels.

Great item. Had to build a ladder but very sturdy unit making access possible to top back of pantry.

Product was good quality for the price.
