The Retractable Factor: They retract into themselves like a fancy pen, so they don't tear up the inside of his pockets or his new leather sheath. It’s sleek, it’s portable, and it doesn't look like a bulky industrial tool. Final Verdict: If your partner has a collection of knives that couldn't cut through warm butter, get him these. For the price, you get two "survival sticks" that make him feel like a professional woodsman every time he touches up a blade.

this is a very nice tool I bought and kept one for myself how about two more and gave away his gifts.

2 rods for a low price. Both are what I would consider a "medium" grit. Would have been better if they offered a medium and a fine in the set, but it seems no one on Amazon offers that. During the few times I've used one, I've not noticed any shedding of diamonds, which is a good thing. I would like to have a cylindrical stone for certain serrated knives, but this tapered stone works well for serrated knives such as those by Spyderco where they have both large and small serrations on the same blade. When I didn't have a leather strop handy for the final step of knife sharpening, this rod works well to make sure that you have no burr.

These are a great little thing to have. I just received it yesterday, but I've already touched up a few tools for the garden and lawn, as well as my daily carry knife. This is not for fixing a damaged blade, or making a show stopping hair popping edge, but it get the edge you had back to use able if you're using your tool all day, dulled it and need it to work again. Pretty handy tool, I like the size and the multiple functions. Headed fishing tomorrow night, we'll see if it holds up for that trip, filet knives, hooks, pocket knives.... It will be tested!!!

These sharpeners are precisely what I needed. Some complain that the texture is too coarse; I find this to be beneficial based on their primary intended use--namely, to sharpen serrated edges. A serrated knife noally maintains cutting ability well past a regular edge simply based on design; by the time one can be considered 'dull" it is usually in need of significant work for which a coarse tool is required. Also, as coarse texture diamond rod can be used for a number of other tasks--mine stands in regularly as a small file in on the spot tasks. Finally as this pack ordered contains two rods, it is a relatively simple task to keep one as-is while dressing the other with a spare stone, sandpaper, or even an old "beater" knife to a finer surface for honing. Overall, this is a very solid and useful purchase which any enterprising crafter or outdoorsperson will be able to put to immediate, beneficial work.

Not a good purchase. Awkward to use. Not efficient for my knife sharpening project.

Works well on those scallop edge knives, does a good job of sharpening.
