After having fabulous shaved ice on our trip to Japan, we wanted to recreate the treats we enjoyed there at home. We looked at every shaved-ice machine Amazon sells and finally settled on this attachment for our KitchenAid blender. It was a little more expensive than some of the standalone machines, but it’s a name we trust. It arrived very well packed in a box we can store the attachment and its parts in. The instructions were easy to follow and the parts were marked for easy assembly. It is somewhat loud, but it’s shaving ice, so that’s to be expected. We’ve only used the fine blade so far and the results were awesome: the same light, fluffy shaved ice we enjoyed on our trip. We even made our own matcha syrup, although American condensed milk doesn’t have the same consistency as the Japanese kind. Oh well! We will be buying more syrups at our kids’ request because we will definitely be using this regularly. One important note: it comes with four plastic, lidded molds in which to freeze water or whatever you want to turn into shaved ice. These take 12 to 24 hours to completely freeze into the “pucks” to use with the attachment. Once out of the freezer, you are supposed to leave it out at room temperature to “temper” it prior to shaving. Well, we haven’t tried this yet. We used regular ice cubes from our freezer that we placed in two layers inside the attachment’s cup… and it worked PERFECTLY. Possibly better, because we were able to refill it quickly three additional times to get the volume we wanted for one serving, then repeat for a second serving for my son. That would’ve been 8 molded ice pucks. I suppose you can buy more molds, but I definitely don’t have room in my freezer for more molds. I had to clear out a flat space for the four molds that came with this. Ice cubes work fine… don’t let the answers to asked questions on the sales page throw you. And if you have a KitchenAid mixer, this is the only shaved-ice machine you’ll ever need.

My son loves how easy it is to make shaved ice with this. The ice comes out delicate and fine, whereas some of our previous equipment would create larger/crunchier chunks that made it feel like you were sucking on a mouthful of small ice cubes (not a great experience). We bought some off-brand refill cups just to have more servings available at a time. They were a bit smaller but worked fine.

This product is AMAZING! Honestly, I wish I would have bought this sooner. I was always researching other shaved ice machines and nothing seemed to be the whole package... until NOW! This KitchenAid Stand Shaved Ice Mixer attachment was durable, versatile, easy to clean, and the directions were easy to understand. I like the design because it was labeled to help me fit the pieces together with ease. I only had a to wait for the water to freeze in order to deliver a yummy shaved ice for my 7 year old!

Decided to let Bezos hold some of my money and try this out - my research online was inconclusive and photos/videos don't really do justice to things like texture so I figured I had to dive in to try it out. The good: It's easy to use and "just works" (provided you already have a stand mixer) There are four molds provided, so you can stockpile the little frozen pucks more conveniently It's fast: it makes short work of the little pucks It's just an attachment for your stand mixer so it doesn't take up much space in storage The bad: Each puck is only good for MAYBE a small shave ice that you would get from a truck or shop in Hawaii The components don't feel sturdy, I imagine this would last a year or two at most with just summer usage and the molds for the ice are paper thin plastic - these things are going to easily crack/shatter if you aren't extra cautious with them. This is the deal breaker for me, but even with the fine attachment the ice is still crunchy. This is a fine product and it does what it advertises; what it doesn't advertise clearly is the texture of the final product, but really I'm only docking a star for the durability (or lack thereof). If you and your family love snow cones then this might be perfect for you but it's no replacement for a proper shave ice machine. (Great Northern Popcorn makes a model, the "Snow Cub" that's been a pleasant surprise for me and it's only $250... compared to the $1500-2k for a Fujimarca, which is what most shops in Hawaii use)

Excellent value and works as advertised. It is very easy to operate. Excellent results. You will need to make a stock of ice pucks to ensure you have enough on hand. One puck makes enough shaved ice (fine blade) for two sno cones. I can see how the plastic molds could break however if handled gently I think they should be ok. A little hot water over the bottom and the puck pops right out. I order an extra set of silicone cups but they are too flexible and difficult to get the lids on so I will order another set of plastic ones and just be careful with them. I am a discerning buyer and have no hesitation whatsoever recommending this device.

Highly refreshing delicious cocktails to make. I just made my first one of blueberries shaved ice with a small shot of an imported spirit, amazingly delicious. It's a little tricky to ensemble the cups, the ice cup has four hatches at the edge, two pairs are different from the other pair, just figure out the matching pair before inserting the ice cup to rotate it to main housing, easy to clean too

The first time I used the shaved ice attachment was for a group of 15 people. It was a great success. I froze two types: plain water and a mix of milk, condensed milk, and water. Both results were very good. I was surprised that one container was enough for 2 people. I had used the 4 containers provided to freeze the mix and separate them into ziplok bags so I could freeze more. I ended up with 16 pucks. I didn't need that much! Plenty for another time. Very happy with the product.
