Striker Mechanical Carpenter Pencil Simply Put, Blows Away Standard Carpenter Pencils
I just got my Striker Mechanical Carpenter Pencil yesterday and I already love it. The bright red color makes it easy to find in my toolbox or when I leave it laying on wood or my bench (which I did) versus the standard carpenters pencil. I can tell that the abs plastic is very durable, and I think that is a big plus versus conventional carpenter pencils. I liked the length of the Striker Mechanical Carpenter Pencil. Its roughly the same length as a new wood pencil. The beauty of a mechanical carpenter pencil is that this length always stays the same, you don't have to deal with changing size and especially small stubby pencils. I liked the pocket clip since sometimes I am not wearing my tool belt it gives me the option to hook on my shirt or pants. Adjusting the Dura-Lead was easy, I first used my Striker on some plywood.and I marked about twenty-five lines and I was pressing hard to get a dark line and not once did the lead break. I love that you can adjust the lead with one hand, it's very convenient if your holding a tape or other tool.. In the past when my pencil broke I would have to put everything down and pull out a utility knife or portable carpenter pencil sharpener. Changing the thickness of this tool was so easy and something I loved. I will use this pencil around the house for writing notes and numbers down. For work, this pencil will save me time in sharpening broken or dull carpenter’s pencils tips..Overall I would recommend this to anyone who uses a carpenter pencil, once you do, like me you will never go back to old style carpenter pencils

Lead breaks
Lead kept breaking on me, but other than that, it was a good buy

I started off excited, it was all down hill from there
I threw it away today. I bought it a couple years ago, started off using it a lot, but the inability to really sharpen it kinda put a damper on my appreciation. However, I was building the cabinets for my kitchen at the time, and I needed more precision that a pencil like this was designed for, so I put it aside for that project and just focused on using it for rough carpentry. However, over time when I went to use it I found that if I applied enough pressure the lead just retreated into the pencil, so I had to toe a very delicate line with the pressure. Today, I decided it just wasn't worth it anymore and finally tossed it in the trash after several minutes of messing around with it. It felt good.

Works well - does what it's supposed to.
Decided to get the Mechanical Pencil to see whether or not there is actually a difference between a regular pencil and this one. I tend to drop things a lot so of course the first thing I did was drop it immediately upon opening the cardboard packaging. Luckily the pencil didn't break and neither did the refills (there are two of them). They're supposed to be super durable - which is good for people like me I guess. The cartridge has a slant to it, so you can get a sharp line or a long and fairly wide one. Depends on the kinds of markings you need. It's placed in a holder that looks a lot like a box cutter, same idea as the extracting blade. As you use it, you can easily adjust it. Anyway, it's a good pencil either way you look at it.

Watch out when letting lead out, don't drop it
I thought with as much as I use carpenter pencils this would come in handy and be great, well for the most part it is but where I don't like it is to let out more lead is a little tricky, once you push the top button down the whole lead stick slides out and if you're not careful will fall onto the ground and break in pieces. Even if you accidentally drop the pencil it will likely break the lead inside into pieces. Knowing what I know now it works great and am glad I purchased this but just need to be aware when I need more lead that I need to have my thumb there to stop the lead from coming out more than I want. Also wish there was a way to store lead in there but I know that would mean either redesigning the lead and mechanisms just to fit in there or it would mean being much bulkier. I don't mind and will continue to use it.

Great for Carpentry
Mechanical pencils are the way to go when building or working on projects and measurements will be taken often. Instead of having a traditional carpenter’s pencil and forgetting to sharpen it, or have it break, a mechanical version is easier. No need to spend time sharpening a traditional pencil. It is easy to use when marking lines to cut, creating thin clean lines. This is a nice gadget that it's made out of durable plastic which allows it to be secure and durable. It can fall to the ground and because it is well-built, it will be fine. It comes with the lead that doesn’t break easily as well and it is surprisingly easy to write on concrete and wood surfaces, which is normally difficult with traditional pencils. The clip on the side allows it to stay in place on a utility belt, or in a jean pocket. The price point is great and the quality is high. Highly recommend!
